We make Hippeastrum bloom beautifully. 3 Top Tips That Will Help You With This
Have you grown hippeastrum, but he is in no hurry to please with a gorgeous flowering? The situation is unpleasant, but not unique. Many flower growers, even quite experienced ones, face this problem.
My hippeastrum hasn't bloomed for quite some time. Fortunately, through research and some trial and error, I figured out how to stimulate its bloom. I am sharing with you three main recommendations on this matter.
Nutrients
A plant will not delight with flowers if the nutrients in the soil where it grows is not even enough to support its normal life. If the flower arrow has already reached 12-15 cm, complex mineral fertilizer from a flower shop must be applied to the soil.
In addition, it is important to remember that it is advisable to transplant the hippeastrum bulb into a fresh, good quality soil every year - during the season it literally "eats" all the minerals and other useful substances from the old soil.
Important to rememberthat the pot for the transplant should be quite deep, but small in diameter.
Accounting for the life rhythms of a plant
The resting period in the hippeastrum lasts about 10 weeks or 2.5 months. After its completion, a flower arrow appears, or several arrows.
It takes about 3 weeks from their appearance to full disclosure of the bud. Therefore, it is necessary to send the plant to rest in a dark, cool place 13 weeks before the expected appearance of flowers.
After a ten-week dormancy, the plant is exposed to a well-lit window, after the flower arrow reaches 12-15 cm, it is abundantly watered and fed.
Immersion in water
50-55 days before the day you want to see flowers on your hippeastrum, take the pot in which the plant is located and immerse it in very warm (about 40 degrees, but not higher than 45) water.
The pot should be immersed along with the soil, it is not necessary to dip the leaves. So it should stand for about 2 hours. Then the hippeastrum needs to be taken out of the water, put on a well-lit window and wait for the peduncle to appear.
When the arrow reaches 15 cm, water and feed as described above.
A very "working" method for awakening bulbs that do not want to release flower stalks even in good condition and ideal living conditions, works almost always.
