Why is it better to spend a little and buy a welding mask with auto-dimming function

When purchasing household welding, I immediately thought about buying a mask with an auto-dimming function, despite the fact that there was a shield included with the device.

Shield - no comparison with a mask

I had little experience in welding. And to protect my face and eyes, I used a shield. Even without comparison, I understood that the mask has undeniable advantages:

1. When welding, you can work with both hands at the same time.

2. The best protection against sparks for the face and head.

3. The mask is always with you (on the head).

Therefore, the mask has no options. And the shield is for an outside observer or for an assistant with the duties "give - bring - run away because he will hit."

Auto-dimming rules

The same goes for the presence of the auto-dimming function. If it is not there, then regular catching "bunnies" is provided. And besides, the mask with auto-darkening also creates convenience, it can be kept on the face all the time, without performing constant movements to move it up and down.

I bought a mask according to my own principle, first the cheapest, and then, when I figured out the functionality and capabilities - something more expensive.

So, I got all the benefits of an auto-dimming mask. But in addition, it turned out that the mask has several adjustments:

1. By the diameter of the head. You can even configure it to work in a header.

2. At the distance from the face.

3. Slope relative to the face.

4. By the degree of shading.

Also in this mask:

1. You can change the sensor unit.

2. A protective glass can be installed to protect the sensor unit from splashes and sparks.

3. There are solar batteries that power the sensor unit.

4. You can work at temperatures from -5 to + 55 ° C.

However, this mask also has several drawbacks, which even I, an amateur, revealed:

1. The spikes used to adjust the angle of the mask are very fragile. On the one hand, they have already broken off.

2. The mask has some kind of bad "aerostatics". For some reason, the smoke from the welding place draws under the mask all the time.

3. The instruction recommends installing a protective glass, but this is extremely difficult to do. After all, even the existing rectangle of thin plastic can be removed with difficulty from the grooves.

But despite this, I am satisfied. Better than a visor, though. When the mask is hitting, I'll try to buy another brand.
