I remember when I was at the university, at first it was hard to get used to the heavy workload and the learning regime. There was not always enough time even for a small snack. A month later, I began to notice a deterioration in health: there was nausea, dizziness and terrible headaches. The symptoms did not go away, and I, fearing a serious illness, consulted a doctor. The doctor heard my story, looked at the tests prescribed for him earlier and advised me to rest more, worry less, and most importantly do not neglect lunch!

Why does the head hurt from hunger?

My diagnosis was not so bad - hungry headaches. Such symptoms are just one of the signs of hunger and are absolutely not dangerous. They appear in two cases: the lack of the necessary dose of nutrients in the body, namely glucose, or with excessive stimulation of the hypothalamus.

In the first case, the cells of the nervous system do not receive enough nutrient, which is glucose for them. Due to the lack of sugar in the blood, the activity of the nervous system decreases. This leads to a deterioration in the performance of the brain and, as a result, dizziness, weakness, mood swings and headache. These symptoms are well known to people who have diabetes. In order to cope with such disorders in the body, the doctor advised me to drink sweet tea. The drink should contain at least 3 cubes of sugar or two tablespoons of honey.

In the second case, the stomach suffers from lack of satiety. It sends signals indicating hunger to the hypothalamus, increasing its activity. The hypothalamus is responsible for various processes in the human body. It also processes signals received from receptors in the stomach about blood sugar levels, gastric juices and feelings of fullness and hunger. The feeling of hunger greatly overloads the hypothalamus. The brain perceives such information as a life-threatening emergency, enters the stage of excitement and releases adrenaline into the bloodstream, which makes a person look for himself food. But if food does not enter the body, the brain begins to go into a phase of exhaustion, which causes a headache. To prevent this from happening, the doctor advised me to develop a dietary regimen and stick to it.
