Summer residents in vain do not grow cornflowers in the garden: beauty and benefits
Recently, summer residents and flower growers, for some reason, have begun to forget about the modest and charming cornflowers. They were replaced by delphiniums, lilies, phloxes. And it is completely in vain, because these discreet, delicate flowers with blue, blue, white, pink, burgundy color can wonderfully decorate any flower bed or flower garden on the site. This annual herb combines beauty, ease of care and benefits.
Rainbow cornflowers bloom from late June to mid September. Sow them in the spring, with the onset of heat, immediately into the ground, sprinkling with a small amount of earth. After 7-10 days, the first shoots will appear, which need to be thinned out. This is done so that sunlight hits the flowers so they can grow and develop well. In the fall, cornflowers will produce many seed boxes, which are harvested, stored in a dry place and sown next season.
Cornflowers are incredibly resistant to disease, so they don't need any protection. But in order for them to bloom for a long time and magnificently, you need to find the right place for them in the garden. This should be an open, well-lit place, as they are sun-loving plants.
Cornflowers tolerate drought well, as they have a well-developed core system. Therefore, if it is worth the heat, one watering every 10 days is enough for them. If the flowers are poured, then aphids will start in them. The plant prefers fertile, humus-rich soil with neutral acidity. It is advisable not to forget to remove the weeds around the plant and loosen the soil, and once a month feed the cornflowers with complex fertilizer.
To prolong the flowering of cornflowers, it is necessary to cut off the faded buds together with the stem with scissors. Then this flower will begin to tie new buds, and the flowering will be as long as possible. By the way, this rule applies to all annual flowers: cosmea, poppy, snapdragon, mallow, bells, marigolds and phlox.
Cornflower flowers and leaves can be dried and used in making delicious herbal teas. Especially infusions with cornflower flowers are useful for people suffering from liver disease, cholecystitis and biliary dyskinesia. Also, teas with this wonderful plant are indicated for cystitis, kidney disease, female and urological diseases.
