Why is it cold in Turkish houses in winter and how do Turks get warm

I first visited Turkey in September 2019. I rested in Alanya - I roasted in the scorching Turkish sun, and in the evenings I sat in local eateries. It was there that I met a couple of local residents.

The Turks said that the heat will soon leave these places. In November, the air temperature will not exceed 15-20 degrees, and the houses will become damp and chilly. Do you want to be surprised with me? It turns out that many houses in Turkey do not have district heating. And this is in the 21st century!

Anyone who has been to Istanbul in winter remembers the light scent of smoke in the air. This is stove heating. Yes, yes, in the capital of the country they are warmed by the heat from the stoves. Of course, this option is not the most convenient and safe. Therefore, the Turks found several more ways to keep warm in winter.

Method 1: heating system for one house.

In the basement of an apartment building, residents install a gas or coal boiler. Such a system heats the whole house and supplies the residents with hot water - it is warm and cheap.

Method 2: combi in the house.

This is what the locals call their home gas boiler. It is less economical, but the boiler can be turned on and off at any time. But the water in such a boiler heats up more slowly - the Turks have to wait until a stream of warmer flows from the tap.

Method 3: air conditioners and electric heaters.

They heat apartments at certain hours - while someone is in the house. And the most desperate Turks are warming themselves with oil batteries. This method is completely unsafe and costly.

Gas networks are not stretched in all regions of Turkey. Residents have to keep warm as best they can. No wonder Russia is pulling the Turkish Stream here. We will soon warm the Turks with Russian gas.
