How I melted the ice on the path and ruined the paving stones. I am telling you why you should not "unfreeze" the sidewalk

Winter also brings unpleasant surprises, such as ice. This issue is especially acute for home owners who need to regularly clean garden paths from ice. A user of our portal under the nickname Bondd shared his experience of melting ice on tracks.

What options did I choose

For various reasons (builders have trampled the path, water is flowing from the roof, etc.), unpleasant ice crusts have formed near the porch and on the paths. Hammering is not an option - the ice is strong and the paving stones are a pity. I tried the reagent - there is little effect. You need a lot of reagent - I didn't like it.

Googled more options.

  1. Melt the ice with a heat gun.
  2. Melt the ice with special building thermomats for heating the soil.
  3. Prepare a special mixture of two liters of warm water, seven drops of detergent and 150 ml of vodka or 60 ml of alcohol.

In the recommendations for the solution, they write: pour the resulting product over the frozen surfaces of your yard. The ice will melt instantly! But I was skeptical about this method and did not even try. I chose a heat gun, since I have no mats. I don't want to pour the sand, as it will dissolve the dirt.

Cannon and liquid

I tried it with a gun - not an option. At near-zero temperature, it warms the stain underneath for 15 minutes, then, when you move the gun, everything freezes. The water does not leave, although it began to warm up from the storm drain.

For the sake of order, I tried a liquid from water, alcohol and Fairy. As expected, the idea is dubious and useless. The time was wasted.

I had to act with a reagent

Returned to the reagent. If you pour more of it, with excessive consumption, then the ice thaws from below, then you break it off with a shovel, and that's it. Only now the blackness from the reagent climbs. I solved the problem with ice, but the tile suffered ...

And here is a photo report of what happened with the paving stones after the reagent, or rather, when he poured more of it. At the same time, in those places where I poured, the destruction is moderate. But where the reagent brought on the bodies of the car got, there is complete devastation.

I admit that all this is due to the quality of the "Armenian" paving stones. Nevertheless, the reagent is contraindicated in this case, especially in large quantities. Who will say what about this?

What will i do

I think to fill these potholes with cement (I will mix it with a dye to match the color of the paving stones), display the level, and see if the blotches will stick. Hopefully the cobblestones won't need to be changed.

Do you think the reagent or the quality of the tile was the culprit for the destruction? Write in the comments!
