Electric car with solar panels is presented in the USA

Electric cars have recently been developing by leaps and bounds, and now another novelty in this segment was announced by the American startup Aptera.

According to company representatives, their car will be able to drive up to 1,600 km on one battery, and the solar panels installed on it will store energy for another 70 km during the day.

What the new car will be capable of

First of all, I want to note that this is a so-called tricycle (three wheels) and it will be designed for a maximum of two passengers and one pet.

It is noteworthy that almost the entire car is made of composite materials. Due to this, its weight (depending on the configuration) will vary from 816 to 998 kilograms.

In this case, the roof, hood and trunk of the car are covered with solar cells, which can recharge the battery for another 70 km of additional mileage. However, there is one significant drawback: while driving, recharging will not work.

In the most affordable configuration, this car will cost no less than 25,900 US dollars and for this money buyers will receive a unit with a battery designed for 25 kW * h with an approximate range of 400 km (engine power 134 horses and acceleration to 100 km per hour in 5.5 seconds).

In the maximum configuration, a 100 kW * h battery will be installed with a power reserve of just 1,600 km (with all-wheel drive and a 201-horsepower engine). And all this will cost customers $ 46,000. American dollars.

There will also be options with 40 and 60 kWh batteries, respectively, with a power reserve of 640 and 960 km.

The developers of this car also emphasize that the built-in batteries are quite capable of covering 90% of all trips from and to work with their charge.

And it turns out that this electric car will practically not require a full charge. And only for long trips will you need to use a stationary recharge.

The car from Aptera has an unusual and maximally streamlined design, while the coefficient aerodynamic drag 0.13 (for comparison, the famous Tesla Model 3 has this figure 0,3).

A fly in the ointment

Despite such attractive parameters and futuristic appearance, it is worth noting that this company was already planning to withdraw his car on the market back in 2011, but then due to the refusal to receive a loan of $ 150 million, the startup went bankrupt.

And this is already the second attempt and, according to the delivery plans, customers will begin in 2021, and pre-orders are already open.
