My geranium winters in an apartment without coolness and is always healthy by spring. I share my proven care tips
Fiery fireworks, fellow flower growers!
Want to keep your geranium healthy until spring? I am ready to tell you about my many years of experience.
Today, on the Internet, they are vying with each other to move the pot to a cool room. I never did that. I just don't have such a room. My zonal pelargonium has always hibernated and will hibernate at home. I share what to look for in order to get healthy plants by spring.
Lighting for pelargonium in winter: how to find the best spot
All geraniums, without exception, love bright light. But in winter there is nowhere to take it. It remains to be content with little. Comrade, help your favorite flower: put it on the sunniest place in your home. The best option is the south side.
Is there an insulated loggia where the temperature is not lower than 5-7 ° C and not higher than 17-20 ° C? Be sure to take the opportunity to give geraniums a full cool down period. Pelargonium royal and "angels" actively lay future buds at low temperatures. Take advantage!
I have tested the artificial lighting of geraniums for the winter. After sunset, I turned on the fluorescent lamp above the windowsill. I didn't notice much difference.
So that pelargonium does not disappear until spring: pay attention to watering
The task of flower growers is to preserve the geranium bush until spring. Comrade, you probably noticed yourself: Pelargonium has become bald and lost some of its leaves.
This is because the light-loving indoor plant now lacks lighting. Nothing can be done. You just need to remember: fewer leaves - less watering. Geranium also tolerates drought well in summer, and in winter it should be watered no more than once every 7 days. Otherwise, the roots of the flower will rot in the wet earth.
2 categorical "no" in the care of pelargonium in the cold season
Comrade, remember two things that cannot be done with geraniums in winter:
- Trim. What for? By spring, everything will stretch out and turn bald again. Let's be conscientious and just look dull. To deprive geraniums of greenery, which is already completely crumbs, is not the most useful act for pelargonium.
- Feed. It is completely useless to feed pelargonium in winter. The plant is still resting and does not need nutrients. On the contrary, with a short-sighted act, we will only aggravate the situation: under the influence of nitrogen or organic matter, the growth of shoots will accelerate. But the sun is not given for the normal development of fertilizers. Therefore, the growth will be shallow and elongated.
Simple rules allow you to keep geraniums at home until spring. In March, I do a stump pruning, leaving 2-3 dormant buds. And after a month, zonal pelargonium begins to turn into a green ball. On which peduncles will appear very soon.
Do you like geraniums and was the article interesting? Please put "Thumbs up" in response! Thank you, comrade florist!
