I no longer throw tangerine peels in the trash: how I use them for the benefit of the garden
Over the holidays, a lot of tangerine peels can accumulate, which you do not need to rush to throw in the bin. They can be used to the advantage of preparing a nutrient supplement for seedling soil mixture.
Composting
There are two types of plant composting: straw and sawdust (cellulose part), as well as green (plant) mass in the form of mowed grass, tops, leaves, weeds. Banana peel and citrus fruits are referred to as the plant part of plants.
Many people think that citrus fruits are contraindicated for earthworms, that is, they avoid tangerine peels because of the smell. But in fact, they are great at eating citrus fruits. In addition, microbiota loves them. In a small amount in the compost pit, tangerine peels will not do any harm, they can be buried in the beds, bypassing composting.
Adding tangerine peels to seedling soil
In addition to composting, tangerine peels are crushed and added to the soil for seedlings. They contain pectins, which swell and help trap moisture in the soil before worms and bacteria start eating them.
If there is a lack of moisture, the crusts will release the required amount of water. In the soil with seedlings, they will lie no more than a month and rot, but their role has already been fulfilled during this time. The seedlings will develop their root system, and will cope further on their own, they only need food and watering.
It is enough to add up to 20 percent of tangerine peels to the soil mixture for seedlings from the total volume of the soil.
Other possibilities
Another useful function of this plant waste is that it repels ants. You just need to sprinkle the crusts along the ant passages, bury a little in the ground, and the insects will leave their habitat. But such plant waste will take a lot to have an effect.
If the crusts get a little moldy during storage, then there is nothing wrong with that. The formed penicillin on the peel has a beneficial effect on the soil.
