Snow blows under the roof: the rafters are rotting, the insulation is getting wet. What to do? Ridge aero element
Snow is a long-awaited phenomenon for many. Snowballing, sledding, skiing, etc. For some, snow brings some problems: wet insulation, mold, leaks, wetting and rotting of the rafter system.
Blowing snow under the roof. Such cases are not uncommon. The reason is incorrect installation of the roof. If there is snow, then nothing good will happen in the future. The insulation will deteriorate, stains will appear on the ceiling, mold will form under the wallpaper (or other finish).
The wind blows snow most of all through the skate.
There are gaps between the profile material and the ridge where snow falls. As a result, 2 problems appear at once. Snow clogs up the gaps, which blocks the normal operation of the ventilation duct. Air can no longer pass freely from the eaves to the ridge. The second problem: the snow melts, moisture gets into the insulation, and then below.
Some people have the idea of foaming the place between the slate and the ridge so as not to disassemble the roof. Or seal the gap from the inside with mineral wool. Such actions will stop the blowing of snow under the roof, but will stop the movement of steam (air) under the roof. The attic will no longer be ventilated.
The problem is better solved in another way. There are special seals with an adhesive layer on sale. It is made of polyurethane foam. Its length is 2 meters. And its price is about 240 rubles.
For example, 10 m. Ridge will need 10 seals 2 meters long. Have to give 2400 rbl. It seems not such a large amount. But you need to remember that over time, the seal becomes clogged with dirt, dust and blocks the ventilation duct.
There are also disadvantages. During installation, the ridge will not be laid evenly due to the structure of the seal. Birds can pluck compactor to build nests.
There is a more modern solution - ridge aero element. Sold in a roll, 5 meters long, 22 cm wide.
Installation is carried out on roofing material. But first, the upper edge of the roofing sheets is cleaned of dirt. Then remove the protective tape from the reverse side of the aerial element. Then the roll is placed in the middle between the edges of the slopes. Glued by pressing the corrugated edges of the material to the profile. Working temperature of the adhesive layer + 5 degrees.
If the installation takes place in winter, then the material must be heated. It must be remembered that the distance between the slopes should be no higher than 16 cm. Because the working surface of the material (vapor-conducting polymer mesh) is exactly 16 cm. Air passes through it, and the snow does not fall under the roof.
What's the cost? For 10 meters it will take about 4000 rub. But the plus is that modern material is easy to install and durable. It is not carried by birds, it is not clogged as the seals.
