No firewood or liquid needed! Device for uniform ignition of coals in the grill
There are three established ways to ignite coals. The first - with the help of wood and chips; the second is a liquid for ignition; the third is with cardboard egg trays or paper nests. But there is one more, the best and most qualitative way to light coals in the grill. It was invented in the west half a century ago. Which one - read on.
On the disadvantages of traditional methods of ignition
There is nothing to say about chips, firewood. At a crucial moment, they may not be at hand. If, for example, a house and a sauna are on gas, then you will not find firewood in the household with fire during the day. And to saw all sorts of boards and branches, this is no longer a holiday... Yes, and it takes time: until the fire flares up, and then wait for the coals. In wet weather, they will also make you suffer - a pillar of smoke, but there's little use!
Liquid is, on the one hand, fast and reliable, and on the other hand, it is dangerous. Well, firstly, it can blaze well: according to statistics, during the barbecue season, the number of burns from liquids for ignition increases. Secondly, smell and discharge. Cheap liquids are smoked and smoked with kerosene. Just spill a little past the barbecue and the appetite-suppressing aroma will spread 5 meters in diameter. But even if the liquid is odorless, no one has canceled the harmful emissions from combustion products.
Egg trays also need to be found somewhere. If they are in store, good; not found a home - a problem. And the method is questionable. It is mostly distributed by bloggers, preaching various life hacks for using these trays. They burn, to put it mildly, not very well. The thing is convenient at first glance, but when lighting it under the tray, you need to burn a lot of paper. Do not agree with this - write in the comments.
Starter for coal ignition
But this device kindles coals evenly and efficiently. The principle of operation of the starter is as follows: coals are placed in the cylinder-pipe; the shape of the pipe, as well as additional holes create a small traction; the bottom of the cylinder is mesh and is located at a certain elevation - its task is to let air and fire pass, but keep the coals; a fire source is located under the bottom; fire under the action of thrust spreads upward, setting fire to all coals evenly. To ignite coals in such a starter, it is enough to light some paper under the bottom. Ready-to-use coals can only be poured into the grill.
You can buy such a starter (cost from 800 rubles and more), or you can do it yourself. Suitable for the manufacture of the main part: a piece of a tin pipe; large metal can; a small bucket and other light metal objects in the form of a cylinder. The main thing here is to make holes for the air supply at the bottom and make a mesh bottom above the holes at an elevation of 5-8 centimeters from the bottom of the starter.
Particular attention should be paid to the handle: its task is to protect the hand from burns. It should be taken out at a distance of 12-15 centimeters from the cylinder. The material of the handle at the grip must be made of wood. Basically, a charcoal starter is a huge mug with a hole in the bottom. It is very simple to make this device, and the benefits from it are enormous: the coals flare up evenly, which has a positive effect on the quality of the kebab.
There is one rule to be aware of when using this starter: coals are considered ready to use when they are covered with a thin layer of white ash.
