Want to grow a beautiful flower garden next to your home next season? Perennials that are easy to propagate
Often, when laying a flower garden, a novice gardener lacks planting material. I will tell you how you can get a large number of perennials without serious material costs.
Seed propagation
Most plants bloom next year after sowing, but if you follow the rules of agricultural technology, you can get up to 100 seedlings from one package. Perennials that I easily grow from seeds:
· Aquilegia - buy a mixture of varieties and you will get neat bushes with flowers of all kinds of colors;
Perennial bells - the most popular are the Carpathian, Peach-leaved, Takeshima;
· Rudbeckia - a very prolific plant with yellow or orange petals and a black center, blooms in the year of planting, is capable of self-seeding;
· Delphinium - modern giant varieties form bushes with peduncles up to 1 m;
· Perennial carnations - species easily emerge: Chinese, Cirrus, Shabo.
When buying seeds, check their freshness; for most flowers, germination drops sharply over time.
Dividing the bush
Perennials need periodic rejuvenation - dividing the bush into several parts. I use this property to increase the number of plants.
Perennial flowers, which I propagate in the fall:
Phlox, dicentra, astilbe - I divide adult bushes with a shovel into 3-5 parts;
· Hosts, geykher - form several outlets, which I separate from each other with sections of the root system;
· Ground cover plants - stonecrop, arabis, yaskolka easily share hands;
Irises, daylilies - have thickened rhizomes, which I cut with a knife into several parts, each division should have a bud.
The division of perennial chrysanthemums is done in the spring. From each shoot (even without roots) a full-fledged bush grows during the season, which will delight you with autumn flowering.
Cuttings
Many perennials reproduce well with green or lignified cuttings. I cut the planting material from adult plants, cut it obliquely under the bud.
I powder the lower part of the cutting with Kornevin, plant it in the ground and organize a mini-greenhouse. After 3 weeks, young plants take root.
In this way, it is easy to propagate clematis, all types of hydrangeas, climbing roses.
Using all plant propagation methods, in 2-3 years you will acquire a sufficient amount of perennials for your site, you will have the opportunity to share surplus seedlings with friends and familiar.
