Wind turbine with Onipko rotor. Works even at low wind speeds
The main problem of all wind generators is that they operate at a wind speed of a certain value. As a rule, from 3 m / s. And for them to work more efficiently, you need to make large blades, raise the generator as high as possible on the mast. The blades can break in a hurricane wind, or the wind generator itself will go into gear (a braking system is needed). Infrasound from the work of classical wind turbines is a separate topic. All animals in the area scatter from him. But there is such a design of blades for a wind generator:
The rotor is a helical structure of three curved planes. The diameter of the blades is small compared to classical counterparts. It reminded me of a paper wind vane for children:
There were such toys on sale and made of thin plastic. Whoever did it in childhood should remember that such blades themselves are oriented in the wind and begin to rotate even when moving or if you blow on them. This was used in his development by the Ukrainian inventor Oleksiy Onipko. This is the president of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences today. And he approached this topic at one time thoroughly, with calculations and tests in a wind tunnel and in the field:
What are the advantages of this form of wind turbine blades? According to the information from the inventor, this rotor shape allows it to rotate evenly when the wind speed changes. The blades produce much less noise. Large generators can be installed near residential buildings. Work at wind speeds from 0.5 m / s to 20 m / s. High efficiency of conversion of air flow into rotary motion. The unit can be installed at any height: on the ground, on a flat roof of buildings. No high masts required. The use of different materials for the manufacture of the rotor - plastic, sheet metal.
Such a design will be interesting for regions where, if not strong, but constant winds blow. Coastal areas, for example. Due to the high efficiency and small size, several small wind turbines can be installed and if the wind more than 300 days a year, then with the system of accumulating electricity in the battery, you can have an autonomous power supply.
I believe that the higher efficiency of the Onipko turbine is achieved due to the large transverse area of the blades. In the classic version of the blades, more wind pressure is needed to convert this pressure into rotation. Classic blades work on the wing effect, and Onipko's rotor also on wind pressure. The Onipko rotor uses the energy of the entire flow passing through the blade section.
Some people try to put this rotor upright. But at the same time, its effectiveness decreases. The rotor works best in a horizontal position. There are other designs for vertical wind turbines.
I did not find rotors and wind turbines ready for sale. Although the inventor has a website and a youtube channel, which is more than 5 years old. Apparently, there is enough work in the Academy of Sciences and there is no time or desire to promote the project.
These rotors are made by enthusiasts themselves. Here is one of the quality homemade products:
The rotor can be made according to the following scheme:
You will need to cut three of these blades from tin or plastic. Fasten them by bending them onto the shaft. Balancing will be a separate difficulty. For small-diameter rotors this is not a problem, but from 1 m - beating without balancing can be strong.
A windmill needs a low-speed generator, an inverter controller and energy storage in the battery. The generator can be purchased on aliexpress:
Option on 300 or 400 watts Voltage 12V, 24V or 48 B. With or without stand. Price: RUB 10,127 or RUB 11368 respectively, with free shipping to the Russian Federation. Weight 4 kg or 4.3 kg. Seller link here
You can search for generator models and other power. Or purchase a ready-made wind generator with a controller and the ability to mount on a mast:
And if it will not work at low wind speeds, then you can redo it by installing an Onipko rotor. An example of a similar model on aliexpress, but on 800 wattshere
He is hardly capable of giving 800 watts power, sellers usually overestimate the characteristics. Most likely, its power, like on joom, is not higher 400 watts There is a delivery from a warehouse in Russia. There is an option with a controller right away. Appearance and dimensions in the photos:
Battery is recommended to buy with technology AGM or EFBthat are not afraid of deep discharge. Conventional batteries will lose capacity after 3-5 deep discharges.
I think for coastal areas the option with such an Onipko turbine is interesting. And there are prospects for increasing the number of days to generate electricity from the wind.
