I gave my husband a cleaver with a fiberglass ax for the New Year
During the construction of the house, a cleaver mysteriously disappeared from our household. The thing, it would seem, is not entirely vital. But, since our bathhouse is heated with wood, the street hearth, where we like to cook in a cauldron, is also needed, a cleaver is often needed. And now, having moved into the house, we brought in chickens who live in a hen house with a stove. That is, chopping of large firewood has become required even more often, but there is no cleaver. Perhaps it lies somewhere, covered with the remains of building materials that have not yet been disassembled. Or maybe he chops wood somewhere far from our house, it doesn't matter. It is important that there is a need for it. And my husband constantly hinted to family and friends that it would be nice to buy a cleaver for him. But, of course, everyone is embarrassed to make such a gift, because the hints are pretty transparent. And then I went to the store of building materials and equipment before the new year and saw the cleavers.
One was ordinary, sorry for the tautology, of such a clumsy appearance. And the second is modern, with a long handle, a sharp steel chopping part. Like in American cinema with Schwarzenegger. And I decided to buy it. It still seems to me that our old cleaver will be found, that is, it makes no sense to take the same one. But it is not a shame to give such a toy to her husband.
I read the characteristics - the weight of the cleaver is 4.38 kilograms, the manufacturer is the German company Matrix. Even I, far from technical, have heard about this campaign. The cleaver is made of 65G steel. For efficient work and accurate hitting, the back of the barbed part is equipped with an anvil, which serves to deliver blows with a sledgehammer.
The handle is fiberglass, it is capable of absorbing shocks. Unlike wood, it does not dry out, does not swell. I remember from my childhood that my dad always kept it on the street so that the handle would not crack, because then the ax can weakly hold the cleaver, and the steel bar will fly off during splitting, causing injury.
But the most important thing is that my husband liked such beauty at work. I just had a few chopping blocks in the chicken coop, which did not fit into the stove and required the work of a cleaver.
The husband appreciated the new instrument “excellent”. We've got such an unusual, but necessary gift for the New Year.
