The Best Way to Feed Raspberries in Spring to Get Huge Yields in Summer

click fraud protection

If only a few modest bushes of raspberries grow on the site, from which only a couple of handfuls of berries can be collected during the season, then special care of the plant is not required.

But, in order to achieve a good harvest from the culture, all the rules of agricultural technology should be observed. One of the most important points in the cultivation of raspberries, I consider correct and timely fertilization.

How and when to feed correctly

Initially, before planting a plant, the site must be cleared of weeds, loosened up the soil and add compost or humus. For 1 square meter, I usually give about 10 kg of such fertilizers.

This feeding is usually enough for several years. But under the condition of impoverished soil, top dressing should be applied regularly.

As fertilizers in the spring, I use:

Ash;

· Complex fertilizers;

· Fertilizers with a high nitrogen content;

· peat.

Overripe manure or chicken droppings are introduced into the soil only in autumn. This rule also applies to fresh manure.

Mineral fertilizers can be safely scattered over the melted snow. They will dissolve in water and naturally penetrate the soil. The best time to apply granular fertilizers is when the snow has almost melted and there are small puddles under the bushes. Dry granules should not come into contact with the root system.

Also, the culture responds very well to fertilization at a time when young shoots have just begun to appear from the ground. Top dressing is done before the shoots appear, the sooner the better.

When fertilizing, it is important to remember that underfeeding is better than too much fertilization. In this case, the roots can get severe burns, and the plant will die.

Ash must not be used after nitrogen application. At least two weeks should pass between these two dressings.

Several recipes for complex fertilizers

Option number 1

Structure:

4 g of phosphorus;

6 g of potassium;

· 3 kg of manure.

Mix everything and add under the raspberry bushes at the rate of one and a half kilograms of the finished product per 1 sq. M.

Option number 2

Structure:

60 g of superphosphate;

40 g of potassium salt;

· 30 g of ammonium nitrate.

Mix all substances and dilute in 10 liters of water. Water the raspberries at the root.

What you need to know before you start feeding

It is important to consider that after each fertilization the bushes with raspberries are thoroughly watered. Then you need to loosen the soil and mulch.

Do not go deeper than 10 cm. This technique allows you to retain moisture for a long period. I recommend using dry manure, high moor peat or compost as mulch.

Chicken manure is very rich in various active substances, so it should be used very carefully.

If remontant varieties are grown on the site, then it is worth considering that these plants need more frequent and abundant feeding. Both organic and mineral fertilizers can be used as fertilizers.

I feed such varieties once every two weeks. Root and foliar feeding alternate among themselves.
