When to sow tomatoes and peppers. Lunar calendar 2021
Some summer residents and gardeners begin to sow peppers and tomatoes as early as January, believing that thereby they can get an early harvest.
Plants are known to react to the length of daylight hours. By planting peppers and tomatoes in January, we thereby extend the growing season of these crops, since at this time there are still not enough daylight hours (at least 12 hours of daylight hours are needed).
Flowering peppers and tomatoes (overgrown seedlings) when transplanted into a greenhouse or open ground are tested stress and shed their flowers, and then sit in the ground for a long time until they adapt to the new conditions and start grow. You can, of course, do additional lighting of seedlings, but why make yourself unnecessary problems. The main thing is not to rush. Hurry will not work well.
I do supplementary lighting on flower crops that I plant in December-January. These are plants that have a long growing season, and they are sown in winter. For example, this is eustoma, begonia.
Sowing dates
There are many nuances associated with sowing dates. It all depends on the region (plus or minus 2 weeks), varieties, weather conditions, etc. Experienced gardeners know when they need to sow. Everyone approaches this issue individually, because experience comes over the years.
Since I live in the northwest region, I have been planting peppers since February 15th, as they are considered to be tough and "harder" to emerge than tomatoes. I begin to sow tomatoes from March 10 to early April, depending on the variety (their duration of the growing season), the timing of ripening.
Lunar calendar for 2021: tomatoes and peppers
Many gardeners pay attention to the sowing dates according to the lunar calendar. I am also one of them. It has long been noted that the lunar phases affect the growth and development of crops. Therefore, I look at the proposed numbers that are more suitable for me for planting.
So, if vegetables are planted on "that" day, then you can achieve an increase in yield by 30 percent, without making any special efforts.
In February 2021, for peppers (also relevant for eggplants), favorable days for sowing are: 4, 5, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24. Prohibited days (new moon) for planting: 10, 11, 12, 27
In March 2021, the following days are considered favorable for sowing tomatoes: 3, 4, 17, 18, 22, 23, 30, 31
Prohibited days (new moon) for planting tomatoes in March: 12, 13, 14, 28.
