Automatic supply of firewood to the heating boiler
Automatic coal or pellet boilers are convenient. I loaded the fuel into the bunker and there is no need to refill it several times a day. The auger itself supplies fuel to the boiler, depending on the readings of the sensors. Their cost is 2-3 times higher than conventional heating boilers.
But a very large number of residents simply heat their homes with wood. Using them not only in brick ovens, but also in boilers. Firewood quickly burns out and you have to put it up 2-3 times a day.
There are pyrolysis boilers that can work for several days on one fuel tab (depending on the outside temperature). But their cost is not small, like automatic boilers. They work only on dry fuel or boilers with a hot grate are needed.
Is there a system for automatically adding firewood to a conventional boiler? Yes, some manufacturers were engaged in this idea and this is what happened:
Instead of the boiler door, a pivoting sectional door is installed, which goes down and a portion of firewood stacked on the rack is poured into the neck. They fall under their own weight, because the rack has a slope.
The door is controlled by a thermal relay connected to a temperature sensor on the heating medium pipe. The temperature dropped below the set one - the door opened, the wood was filled up. From the coals they light up, heating resumes. It is very convenient, at night in cold weather you do not need to get up and go to put firewood in the boiler.
Firewood is added in portions. when the door is opened, not all the firewood from the rack is poured into the boiler, but only those that have fallen on the horizontal platform of the door. This can be seen in the video at the link under the photos or here: https://youtu.be/_LG78X8m-hI
This boiler is also equipped with an automatic ignition system. The downside I see is that the wood must be of a certain length and large logs can get stuck in the neck. For a smoke alarm, a smoke detector must be installed. And ideally - with an SMS notification.
Option of automatic loading of firewood into the boiler from a German manufacturer. How it works - on the video link under the photo. I don’t focus on it, because for the average consumer, the model is still expensive.
There are also kulibins who independently made an automatic system for supplying firewood to their boiler. Example:
The author has a series of videos about his installation, where he tells and shows how everything works.
In general, it is strange that with the level of engineering thinking, our specialists in production have not yet come up with an effective automatic supply of firewood to the boiler. The market is huge, there is a need. And the principle itself is not complicated. If such a firewood supply system appeared, would you buy it?
