Winter gardening at home

On winter days, when all plants are asleep, the owners of gardens and vegetable gardens enjoy a well-deserved rest. After the snow falls, I am not at all drawn to the garden and the garden, I want to forget about the labors and gardening work. Of course, it is worth looking out to the spring sun, as it is already impatient to start them again, but even now I am aware that if I sit on the couch, then in the spring it will be possible to miss a lot.

Therefore, I do the following work during the hibernation of the garden and vegetable garden:

1. I constantly remove snow from the top of the greenhouse. Even a small snow cap can cause irreparable harm in case of sudden warming, when it freezes and then does not slide off on its own. I put special supports inside the greenhouse since autumn.

2. Currant bushes, especially young ones, must be covered with snow from the bottom with the first snowfalls. Although they are fenced, the branches still fall and the bush is formed in the sloppy spring. In the spring I tie it up with twine in a bundle and pour boiling water over it from pests.

3. With the first snow over a climbing rose, which I have laid on wooden pallets from bricks, I pile up the maximum possible snowdrift. So it will not freeze and vytryat, because the bottom of the trellised trays will make it possible to ventilate in the spring.

4. I also try to cover chrysanthemums and other perennials that are cut off with snow, including those that we clear from the paths.

5. Young pears and apple trees, which I tied to stakes in the fall, also fall asleep with the maximum possible pyramid of snow. This is a water supply, protection from rodents and protection from the wind.

6. In the beds where winter garlic is planted, I constantly make sure that the snow does not blow away with the wind, and I even add it.

7. All the mummified fruits, of which there are a huge amount of small-fruited apple trees, I remove with a rake. By spring there will be two meters of snow, I go up on skis and reach almost to the top. Then I collect them and burn them in the oven.
