Wood treatment with activated carbon or soot from the stove + 3 more ways to decorate wood
The final stage of work with joinery (wood) products is especially important. Without processing and decoration, the product will look incomplete.
1 way. Especially popular wood burning. Firing is carried out after final drying and surface cleaning. The tree should not be of high density. It is good when the growth rings are visible. For firing, use a burner, a dremel, a blowtorch, a hair dryer or a gas cylinder with a nozzle.
After this treatment, the surface is cleaned with a metal brush, grinder or drill with a nozzle.
2 way. There is also other wood processing - branching. This is the removal of the soft part from the surface of the wood. The result is a raised, convex structure. Annual circles, bends are more clearly visible. Branching is sometimes combined with firing.
3 way. Someone is using tinting. For this, various pigment or dye-based formulations are used. Ready-made compositions can be bought at a hardware store.
Today I will tell you another interesting method. decorating wood through coal.
Unusual activated carbon finish (dry and wet)
So that the joinery does not look clumsy, this method of finishing is used. Professional carpenters know many different wood finishing products. Various chemistry is used. But there is an easier way without buying expensive funds. The method is good when working with porous wood (ash, oak, chestnut, elm, etc.).
But I will show on pine (there is no normal wood available).
You need activated carbon to work. You can even take charcoal or soot from the stove. If activated carbon, then it must be crushed into powder.
The finished product is poured onto a dry wood surface. Then use a newspaper stick or just your finger to rub the powder into the pores of the wood.
Powder particles should be removed with a dry cloth. The surface has acquired an interesting shade. Coal dust got into the pores. But that is not all. With a grinder we pass over the entire surface. We clean off the dust and proceed to the final processing.
Yesterday I wrote about oil for wood. It is sold in a pharmacy and is not expensive. It is a colorless vaseline oil. Environmentally friendly and odorless.
Take a sponge and apply an even layer of oil. Then you can wipe it with a dry cloth. You can immediately dissolve the charcoal powder with oil and apply to the surface of the wood. Wait until dry and sand. When wet, the curves and circles on the surface become more contrasting.
