Xiaomi creates a wireless charger that can charge the phone across the room

The Chinese giant and beloved by many multi-brand Xiaomi has announced a completely new technology Mi Air Charge, which, according to the developers, allows you to charge your smartphone through the entire room. As soon as you enter the room where this system is installed, your smartphone starts to recharge automatically.

New technology and its prospects

In fairness, it should be noted that this technology is being developed by various companies on for many years, but so far no one has been able to provide a fully functioning commercial option.

But the Xiaomi demo looks pretty promising, and the company's engineers say that in-room wireless charging is close enough to its final stage of completion.

So the Mi Air Charge box resembles a small magazine table in dimensions. Inside this box, there are five antennas, whose task is to accurately determine the location of your phone in the room. As soon as the antennas “catch” your device, a special control grill consisting of 144 mini antennas will send microwave radiation to the phone.

In this case, a formed beam will be applied, due to which the microwave radiation directly to a specific device, rather than scattering radiation in all directions in the room.

At the moment, the power of such a charge is about 5 W at a distance of several meters. Moreover, charging will work even through minor obstacles, for example, through a sofa.

But for the full operation of Mi Air Charge, you need a special receiving device in the phone as well. Namely, it will be necessary to have a special beacon antenna, which will be responsible for transmitting information about the position of the phone.

And also a special receiving antenna array, which will consist of 14 antennas. They will convert microwave radiation into electricity, which can already be used to recharge the phone's battery.

Also, the developers of Mi Air Charge say that their device will be able to recharge several devices at once. According to Xiaomi representatives, in the future, all our smart devices will automatically charge as soon as they get into certain rooms equipped with similar chargers.

Unfortunately, it is not yet known when exactly the Mi Air Charge system will become available to ordinary buyers and at the same time how much will have to pay for it. Also, while there are questions about the operation of the device in practice. So the company said that at the moment everything is at the level of "technical demonstration". But the company has already launched a commercial.

Everything looks pretty and simple enough, so let's be patient and hope that the technology will get full commercial use. Moreover, Xiaomi has a fairly serious track record in the field of fast and wireless charging technologies.
