Space X showed two Starship prototypes at once on one site
It looks like the fantastic footage from the movies, which shows space ports with ships, are becoming quite real. This impression is formed when you look at the photos of two prototypes standing next to each other. Starship SN 9 and SN 10.
The rockets shimmering in the hot Texas sun ended up on one site, located near the small settlement of Boca Chica (southern Texas).
Of course, this event was immediately announced on Twitter by the CEO of Space X Elon Musk. He published a video that was signed as "Starship SN 9 and SN 10".
Starship SN 9 and SN 10 are designed to perform test flights of a reusable launch system, which was personally developed by Space X engineers, and is aimed at launching astronauts and cargo into deep space.
So Starship in height is 50 meters, and its full-fledged version, which is intended for launching the spacecraft into space, will have six engines of the type Raptor. The upper stage, called Super Heavy, will have 30 Raptor engines. Moreover, both parts are returned and can be reused many times.
So setup SN 9 and SN 10 have on board three Raptor engines each and are primarily intended for test flights in suborbital space at a distance of up to 10 km.
Note. It should be noted that the flight of the SN 8 installation took place in early December 2020. As a result, the installation was raised to an altitude of 12.5 km, where, after a series of somersaults, it was sent back for an attempt to land. But the landing turned out to be hard and as a result of the contact of the installation on the surface of the ground, SN 8 exploded and burned up.
Space X hopes that the Starship SN 9 flight, which is scheduled for the first half of February this year, will be more successful. So in the past few days, the company's engineers have been closely watching Starship SN 9 on a special test bench.
So the impression was that the rocket was about to take off. But as the Federal Aviation Administration (FDA) (responsible for overseeing commercial missile launches) said, the request for a flight clearance has not yet been received.
Despite the setbacks, the development of new spacecraft is moving by leaps and bounds, and the first space flight to Mars no longer looks fantastic.
