"I don't need gas in my house for nothing!" I am telling you why my friend changed his gas stove to an electric one and removed the boiler room from the house.

Life without gasification is now difficult to imagine. Blue fuel brings warmth and comfort to homes - it is very convenient and cheap! But far from all I think so. A member of our forum, Andrei, told why his friend categorically refused to cook on gas and moved the boiler room from the basement to the annex.

My friend doesn't wear a tin foil hat; does not believe in reptilians and UFOs; does not communicate with spirits and does not watch REN TV programs. He made the decision to abandon the gas stove when he studied at the Institute of Oil and Gas. And this was his second higher education! So you shouldn't be skeptical about his opinion.

Once I was visiting him and instead of a gas stove I found an electric one. "Have you turned off the gas?" I asked. He replied: "You know, at the institute we went through the chemical technology of oil and gas, and so after that I decided that I didn’t need gas in my house for nothing — it’s such a poison!"

What is the danger of using gas in a residential area

Natural gas in its pure form is odorless. In order for the leak to be detected in time, strongly odorous impurities - odorants - are introduced into the gas. Since the mid-eighties of the last century, almost throughout the entire territory of Russia, a mixture of natural mercaptans has been added to the gas for smell.

Mercaptans are poisonous and belong to the second class of danger. Of course, the gas is deodorized with a minimum amount of this substance, which, logically, should not harm human health. But my friend objected to this: "Poison is poison, and the required dosage is a matter of course!"

The fact is that burners, and especially poorly regulated ones, do not completely burn gas and, accordingly, other impurities. Over the years of operation of the gas stove, mercaptans accumulate in the kitchen. They settle on walls, ceilings, furniture, kitchen utensils. Moreover, the products of gas combustion go directly to food.

In addition to this, during the operation of the gas stove, a large amount of carbon monoxide is released and oxygen is burned. By the way, gas combustion is a reaction in which oxygen is burned nine and a half times more than the gas itself. It's not worth talking about the dangers of carbon monoxide - everyone already knows about it.

When these substances accumulate and their concentration goes beyond the maximum permissible level, being in the room becomes potentially dangerous. And how mercaptans will affect health is anyone's guess. Maybe they will only cause headaches and ailments, or maybe they will backfire with something more serious.

As my friend said, Norwegian scientists from the Trondheim University of Technology dealt with this issue. They found carcinogens and other dangerous compounds in kitchens with gas stoves. I am not a chemist, and I cannot say if this is true or not. I'm just telling you how he explained to me not to use gas in a living room.

What is the bottom line

His decision to get rid of gas cost more than 450 thousand rubles. The first thing he did was remove the gas stove and put on the electric one. His electricity bills have since tripled. Second: he erected an annex with a separate entrance and transferred a gas boiler to it. He explained these expenses with a simple statement: "I want to live longer and see more!"
