What Not To Do With The Money Tree If You Want To See A Beautiful Plant: 5 Big Mistakes
Fiery fireworks, fellow flower growers! Today on the agenda are important prohibitions in caring for a beloved fat woman (scientifically - "crassula", in the popular way - "money tree".
Citizens want to see a lush bush of green leaves that look like thick coins. Or a branchy tree with an emerald head. But sometimes Crassula turns into a semi-lily plant. Neither wealth nor decorativeness. Or does not want to grow in any way, frozen in one size.
The reasons for Money Tree's dissatisfaction are simple and easy to correct. Having understood these mistakes, the florist recognizes the fat woman from the other side. More attractive. And there, perhaps, the omen will work.
The fat woman does NOT need a large pot
Crassula's terrible dream - constant moisture at the roots. And it is to this fate that generous citizens doom the plant, giving the pot "for growth." While the roots absorb moisture from the top layer of the soil, a swamp is formed below. In the best case, leaves fly around. At worst, the roots start to rot.
Remember, comrade: a large pot is slow growth anyway. Indoor plants first try to braid the entire pot with roots, and only then they begin to quickly grow branches and leaves.
The diameter of the pot should be 1.5-2 cm larger than the volume of the roots of young plants, and 2-3 cm larger for already mature "Money Trees". By taking more capacity, citizens are putting the health of the fat woman at risk and deliberately agree to slow growth.
The fat woman does NOT need a fertile and dense soil
Crassula is a child of poor soil. Do not think that from the abundance of humus in the soil, it will suddenly change its nature and begin to grow faster and more beautiful. But excess nutrition will be an unfavorable factor.
Dense soil in the form of black earth does not allow water to evaporate from the ground. Stagnation of moisture, as we have already found out, is the main cause of rot and a sad appearance of the plant.
The fat woman does NOT need to be watered often
"Money tree" is a real succulent, like a cactus. The fat woman stores water in the leaves. No wonder they are so thick! When the plant gets moisture with frequent watering, leaves are not needed. Crassula throws them off, first of all the old ones. Bald branches are obtained with a young growth at the very tips. Doubtful beauty.
The money tree is watered when half the pot dries out. Is the topsoil dry? Take the watering can in 10-14 days.
The fat woman should NOT be placed in the shade and in the bright sun.
A money tree placed in the shade is stretched out. The distance between the leaves increases. Sticks will not add beauty to the interior of the house, but will cause laughter or regret. Lack of light is always a slow metabolism, which does not fit in with normal development.
But you should not put the pot under direct rays: the leaves will acquire an ugly purple-red tan. Are the windows facing the sunny side? Be sure to shade in the summer.
The fat woman should NOT be left without pinching and trimming
Comrades who are "sorry" to cut, grow ugly plants. In order for the "Money Tree" to branch out and grow with a fluffy crown, it must be pinched.
Think in advance what shape the plant will take. Feel free to cut branches that do not fit into the desired picture. Every spring, prune the "hanging" shoots that have become so due to lack of light, and pinch / prune the rest of the branches for bushiness. It is necessary to cut the stems at the level of the extreme internode, so that there are no ugly hemp left.
