Working methods for getting stocky seedlings

10 days after picking the seedlings, I remove the cotyledon leaves.

Before each watering, I knead the cups of earth. This damages a small part of the roots, which causes their additional branching. Or I do the second dive, in the case of small cups at the first dive.

After the appearance of 7-8 leaves, I cut off a couple of lower leaves or shorten them by one third with scissors, which eliminates the thickening and stretching of the plants.

For several seedlings, I cut off the top when 6-7 leaves appear. On the plant, I leave 3-4 leaves on the bottom. After about 7 days, stepchildren (processes) appear in the sinuses, which I remove, except for one (the most developed of them).

In this case, the stem thickens significantly. This technique is good because in the case of overgrowth of young plants, you can gain time before transplanting to a permanent place.

And the crown can be easily rooted if you put the cutting in water. Thus, I propagate valuable varieties if there are few seeds.

After a while, the stalk will start up roots and must be rooted in the ground. A full-fledged tomato bush will grow from this cutting.

Therefore, do not sow the seeds early, everything should be on time. Seedlings require good lighting, the temperature is not more than + 18- + 20 degrees.

Since April, every day I take out tomato seedlings (as well as peppers, eggplants) in a greenhouse. There she receives more light, and is tempered to some extent.

Of course, tomato seedlings must be fed at least 2-3 times before planting for a constant time. Now in stores there are many different fertilizers for tomatoes, both in liquid form and in granules.

I use a universal fertilizer «Ideal» in liquid form. Also, I do not refuse to use folk remedies (ash, onion husks, iodine, sugar, banana skins).

All these methods are effective, they are considered working by many gardeners.
