Advantages of houses from a metal "sandwich"

I approached the choice of material for a country house carefully, based on the goals and purpose of the building. I'll start with the pros.

1. Price.

In the segment of building materials and structures, metal sandwich panels provide the most favorable cost per finished square. Because after assembly, you do not need to deal with the external and internal decoration of the walls and ceiling. Any other materials need additional finishing, both outside and inside.

2. Construction speed.

My 42 m² piled cottage was built in just six working days.

3. House Warm.

With a street temperature of -15 degrees below zero, maintaining a comfortable temperature on these forty-something squares requires only 2 kW / h, and then, at the night rate. I heat with two heaters, one kilowatt each, plus, in the kitchen-living room there is an electric underfloor heating system.

This is where the pros end and the fat cons begin.

Cons of houses made of metal sandwich panels

1. No soundproofing at all.

You can hear the barking neighbor's dog as if it were inside. According to the acoustic sensations, the walls seem to be absent. Since the roof is made of profiled sheet, any small rain seems to be a powerful downpour.

2. Electrical wiring difficulties.

The metal is only 0.5mm thick and very sharp. I have not found any technical solutions to ensure normal insulation of electrical wiring from metal. I used polypropylene sleeves, but ideally a mushroom design is needed. All electrical wiring is naturally external in cable ducts.

3. In winter, the joint half-panel and corners are very frozen.

4. Nothing heavy should be attached to the walls.

That is, when you need to hang something massive (equipment, furniture, etc.), then only through fastening through the entire panel.

In fairness, it is worth clarifying that some of the disadvantages noted by Sergey are not characteristics inherent in the material and technology.

Freezing - usually due to either insufficient thickness of thermal insulation in the panel, or errors in the assembly of the box, or both. At the same time, the owner himself considers the merits that the house is still warm with freezing corners and joints.

Noisy roof - Loud sounds accompanying even light rain annoy the owners of any houses with a metal roof, regardless of the construction. To reduce acoustic discomfort, when assembling, heat-insulating materials are included in the cake, which at the same time have a high sound-insulating ability.
