How I irrigate Cabbage outside the box during the growth period and get heads of cabbage 2 times larger than all neighbors
Cabbage is everyone's favorite agricultural crop, the cultivation of which I began to encounter several years ago. And over these couple of years, I realized that an important criterion for a successful harvest is the correct watering of the plants. It is he who is the factor that affects not only the taste of cabbage, but also the characteristics and size of the head of cabbage.
Compliance with the water regime, in my opinion, is the most important criterion for a good harvest. I tried a lot, but settled on these recommendations.
1. Use water of a certain temperature
For watering seedlings and only or bushes that are planted in the garden, it is necessary to use water of a certain temperature. It is cold water that can cause a poor harvest, which is associated with an underdevelopment of the root system.
As a result, cabbage may not tie at all, and watering with cold water can contribute to the development and reproduction of various diseases. That is why I never take water from a well or a plumbing. It is best to collect it in buckets and give time for the water to settle and warm up.
The black bucket is ideal as it attracts the sun and warms up much faster. However, keep in mind that too hot water is also not very useful. This applies to all types and subspecies of cabbage: cauliflower, kohlrabi, white cabbage, Peking cabbage. Temperature range 18-23 degrees.
2. Watering frequency
Watering frequency depends on the age of the plant. After disembarkation and before the beginning of the formation of the head of cabbage - several times a day. It must be remembered that excess moisture can provoke rotting.
3. Exclude watering after pest control
After treating plants from pests and insects, it is not recommended to water the cabbage, as this can make prevention ineffective.
Watering is not recommended for a month before harvesting, as it can cause the head to crack. In view of this, a month before harvesting, I completely stop watering the late varieties of cabbage.
4. Progressive watering methods
Watering methods vary. I tried several and settled on drip irrigation. Its pluses:
• No need to loosen the soil after watering;
• Water is consumed much less;
• The size of the head of cabbage doubles.
The best time to water is in the evening. I recommend drip irrigation to everyone.
