Why do I wear paper skirts for tomato seedlings.
Paper skirts on seedlings, as a way to protect the soil from drying out
Many gardeners are forced to grow seedlings on windowsills.
In fact, it is very convenient, because the plants receive a sufficient amount of daylight and are in a heated room.
But there is one big drawback: central heating, which dries the air and causes moisture to evaporate catastrophically.
How to deal with this problem and why?
Many will say that this is not scary, because you can water and spray the seedlings most often.
But I disagree with this opinion. The fact is that too frequent watering and spraying significantly increases the chances of such a dangerous disease as black leg.
To reduce the possibility of such a big trouble, you can put "skirts" on the seedlings.
They are certainly not a panacea for blackfoot, but they will not allow moisture to evaporate too quickly.
How can skirts be made?
We need paper: plain white paper for a printer or from school notebooks. You can borrow old newspapers. It doesn't really matter.
Then we cut out circles of the same diameter as the cups into which you dived young plants.
In the center of the circles we make a hole wide enough so that it does not come into contact with the stem, but not too large.
The next stage is putting on skirts for seedlings. In order not to harm the plants, you can cut the circle from one side and then connect it.
When watering, slightly raise the edge of the skirt and water.
Everything is easy and simple, but very effective!
