What do I add to the soil before planting Onions. The result is always excellent and the onions are large

This culture can hardly be called unpretentious. Then the bulbs grow well, but the harvest is poorly stored. Then the plantings are affected by pests, the feather turns yellow, and the turnip does not have time to form, although it is already August in the yard.

Do you want to know what I add to the soil before planting onions, and as a result, I get the envy of my neighbors?

Soil preparation

Experienced gardeners are well aware that the autumn preparation of the site with the introduction of the necessary fertilizers is the key to an excellent harvest in the next season. I am also used to not neglecting garden work after harvesting early crops.

For example, onions ripened in August and safely sent to drying under the roof of a barn, and the land is sown with siderates. After a month, I dig it up, scattering humus, and leave it to rest.

In autumn, it is important to restore the fertile composition, if necessary, improve the soil structure, given that this root crop prefers to grow in loose soil rich in organic matter:

· If the soil is loamy, add a mixture of peat and humus 1: 1 at the rate of 12 kg / m² with the addition of 40 g superphosphate and 15 g urea;

· Sandy areas are enriched with humus, low-lying peat and loamy soil in proportions of 6: 6: 12 kg, respectively, per m², adding 15 g of nitrophosphate;

Dilute peaty soil with humus / compost 5-7 kg and sand 10 kg / m², include 10 g of urea and 60 g of superphosphate in the mixture.

Important! In soils with high pH values, onions are sick, it is difficult to achieve decent yields here, if you do not neutralize the acidity with dolomite flour or fluff lime.

What to put in the spring before planting?

If in the fall it was not possible to nourish the soil under the onion with useful substances, add them in the spring for digging at least 2 weeks before planting.

If you had to start planting the culture in an emergency mode, make grooves in the garden bed, add under each bulb:

Superphosphate - 4-5 granules;

Humus - 1 tsp l .;

Wood ash - 1 tsp l.

To prevent onion flies, I add a little table salt to the soil before planting the culture. I pour it into each row or hole, spending 3-4 g per onion (literally a few grains).

Gives good results and soil fertilization with ash at the rate of 1.5-2 l / m². Such protection from the parasite population will allow to grow large healthy bulbs, and the crop is stored in winter with virtually no loss.

To build up the green mass, I feed the onion beds with nitrogenous compounds about 2 weeks after planting. Remember, a strong feather will keep the bulb large.

However, one cannot overdo it, since an excessive nitrogen content in the soil stimulates the rapid growth of the aboveground part of the culture, and the head develops poorly.
