Homemade burners are made in different ways, but I really like this particular option - from an old can of Indian coffee, which I don't remember how many years. It is important that the jar closes well, then everything will work out.

To make an alcohol burner, in addition to a can, I needed a wick and alcohol. And from the tools - scissors, an awl, well, matches. And that's the whole list.

The awl easily passes soft metal.
The awl easily passes soft metal.

First, you need to pierce the holes in the bank with an awl in a circle. The distance between them turned out to be about 1 cm. In a real burner, the slots in the burner are located 8-9 mm from each other, so that the can is almost a gost-standard. As a markup I used an elastic band, along which I was guided so that the holes did not "walk" much up and down.

I pierced the holes at a height slightly higher than the height of the future wick.

I cut off a piece of felt seal for the door, still from Soviet times, as a wick. You could cut off a piece of an old natural fiber belt. Natural material will definitely not give as much digging as synthetic material. The wick was bent with a ring along the inner diameter of the can, and the edges were fastened with a wire. After installing it in the jar, it lay close to the walls.

I poured 70-80 grams of alcohol and set it on fire with the lid open.

Important! It is imperative to wait for the burning alcohol to warm up the jar well; then you can safely close it with a lid and set fire to the vapors near the holes on the outside. It is also worth turning the holes up a little with an awl, this will also help the burner work correctly.
The burner ignites slowly over 1 minute.

My burner lit up on the third try when I accounted for all the mistakes. It flared up gradually until the flame became, as on a real gas stove. Along the way, he put a bowl of water on the burner, heated the water to boiling water and threw an egg into it.

Even after the egg was hard-boiled, the alcohol in the can still burned for a long time. The burner had to be put out with a saucepan. But it didn't work out with a towel. Since it is low density and airy, alcohol vapors passed through it and burned on top of the towel.

Such a flame burned almost all the time.

After the extinguished burner cooled down, it turned out that the wick was still damp and intact, did not even have time to burn. In general, the burner justified itself and pleased with its practicality. You can take it on a hike, fishing, to the country house, for a weekend, etc.

How it looks after the first test can be seen in the picture below.

Burner after the first test. The holes bent with an awl are clearly visible.

So, it's nice to note that the alcohol burner worked. Before igniting alcohol vapors near the holes, it is important to close the lid tightly so that they do not seep out from under it. Instead of alcohol, you can use denatured alcohol or something similar.
