How to make a wood drill from a nail

Everything is very simple. The first step is to choose a nail that is suitable in diameter and cut off the cap from it. After that, you need to rivet the point, turn it into a kind of spearhead (petal). The width of the petal will determine the diameter of the hole drilled with this drill.

The final stage in the manufacture of the drill will be sharpening the tip. The edges of the "petal" must be sharpened on both sides and done so that the cutting edges are directed in the direction of rotation. The cutting edge angle should be approximately 60 degrees.

In order for a nail drill to serve for a long time, it can be hardened. To do this, it is required to heat the "petal" red-hot and cool in engine oil. This drill is perfect for wood and wood materials: plywood, chipboard, fiberboard, OSB and others. Compared to a screw drill, a nail drill does not break.
