How to soak the seeds to nourish them and increase germination. The simple 2-in-1 method
Flaming fireworks, fellow gardeners! Today on the agenda is the use of valuable folk fertilizer - ash - for the sake of good germination and healthy seedlings. Few have doubts about its benefits. But ash can be used not only for feeding adult crops, but also for soaking vegetable, flower and berry seeds.
Why ash and soaking are useful: the "2 in 1" effect
The first and main argument “for” is naturalness. Until now, there are summer residents who are afraid to use chemical fertilizers. And, although these fears are not justified by anything, we will leave everyone the right to choose. Moreover, the ash actually shows good results. I used it both for sowing seeds and for fertilizing the beds. The result is more than satisfied.
The second argument is composition. Wood ash contains 3 mineral elements that young plants need: calcium, phosphorus and potassium. We will saturate the seeds with an ash solution in advance, so there is no need for feeding. You will need to start feeding the seedlings only 2 weeks after the pick.
The very procedure of soaking, even in plain water, significantly increases the germination of seeds. Especially stale ones. Over time, they dry out, and saturation with moisture brings the planting material into combat readiness. Germination both increases and accelerates.
How to properly soak seeds in ash
Soaking the seeds in ash is the last stage of preparation. It is carried out just before the sowing itself. If a friend also decontaminates seeds (for example, in a weak solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide), then this procedure goes before the treatment with an ash solution.
An approximate scheme of actions (it is not at all necessary to repeat it completely - you can choose the main thing for yourself):
- Rejection. The seeds are poured into a salt solution (1 teaspoon per 1 glass of water) and left for 10 minutes. Everything that floated to the surface of the water is thrown away.
- Disinfection in peroxide or a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
- Cold / Heat treatment - for those who have free time. The contrast of temperatures greatly stimulates seed germination. To do this, the seeds in a wet cloth are first placed in the refrigerator for 8 hours, and then left warm for 2 days.
- The last stage is soaking in ash, like a seed drink with minerals.
The solution is very simple to prepare: water and ash must be mixed in equal parts in a small container. We leave it for 6 hours, and then we immediately start sowing. The first shoots will appear and grow soon! Was it helpful? Put "Thumbs up" in response, comrade!
