Why are routers wrapped in foil or why Wi-Fi is harmful
Hello dear subscribers and guests of my channel! More and more often I began to come across rather original photographs with routers packed in food foil.
And, as I was able to find out, this was done supposedly to reduce the harmful radiation from the device. In this article I will tell you why it is not necessary to do this and what such a "homemade" product can lead to, as well as figure out what is really harmful to Wi-Fi. So let's get started.
Imaginary "protection" from harmful radiation
It turned out that the owners are doing this modernization of their routers in order to reduce the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation. Allegedly, in such a simple way, they (people) block harmful radiation from the device.
So, let's deal with the foil first. If it really blocked the "harmful" signal, then the signal itself would be blocked. This means the whole essence of a Wi-Fi router would be completely lost.
So, in principle, there will be no blocking effect from the foil. But with such "modernization" you can harm the device more. Since the device generates heat during operation, and it is removed through the holes in the case.
If you close the technical openings, this will lead to overheating of the device and its imminent failure. And in the worst case, it can even lead to a fire.
I hope you have already understood that foil will not protect you from the harmful radiation of the router. And now I want to tell you what the real harm is and how to minimize it as much as possible.
Real harm and how to minimize it
Let's look at this issue and first touch on the technical side of the process. At the moment, the emission frequency of Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz. For comparison, the radiation frequency of a microwave oven is 2.45 GHz. It is for this reason that the operation of the "stove" can almost completely block the signal from the router.
So the radiation power of most routers is within 18 dBm (63 mW). To understand the difference, your cell phone emits approximately 1W. At the same time, our routers often do not turn off 24 hours a day, and the distance from it with us can vary from 0 to 50 meters.
So, speaking about routers, we primarily mean electromagnetic radiation, and, as studies have shown, it primarily affects the brain and our nervous system.
According to some studies, negative manifestations of electromagnetic radiation are such moments as accelerated fatigue, insomnia, frequent headaches, etc.
Some people generally compare Wi-Fi routers with microwave ovens, but everything is not so simple here. Firstly, the power of a router is hundreds of times less than the power of the lowest-power microwave. And besides this, the power of electromagnetic radiation decreases in inverse proportion to the square of the distance to the source.
Secondly, it is also important to take into account the time of exposure of a radiation source to a person. For example, on the phone (it is also a source of electromagnetic radiation with a power of 1 W), we can talk for only a few minutes a day, but the same router usually works 24/7.
And it turns out that for an objective assessment of the harm or harmlessness of Wi-Fi routers on the human body, one should rely on four parameters:
- Frequency.
- Emitter power.
- Distance to the emitter.
- Duration of exposure.
And now, based on these parameters, we will draw our final conclusions.
Conclusions about the harmfulness of routers
A Wi-Fi router is one of the many sources of electromagnetic radiation that surrounds us every day. In order to minimize its harmful effects on the body, do the following:
- Try not to use Wi-Fi if you don't need internet at this point.
- Position the router so that it is as far away from where you spend most of your time as possible.
- Be sure to turn off your router at night. This will allow the body to recover in the most comfortable conditions.
These tips will actually help reduce the harmful effects of the electromagnetic field on you, not all these foil wrapping weirdos. If you liked the material, then rate it and do not forget to subscribe. Thank you for your attention!
