A house with a vegetable garden and a bathhouse is the dream of many, but not all. There are ardent opponents of suburban life and we talked with one of them. Our interlocutor Vladimir told how he was not satisfied with life in the private sector.

"Suburban life is a waste of time and money!" I tell you why I sold the house and returned to the apartment

A little bit about yourself

I am 35 years old. I am a doctor employed in a private clinic. My income is 65 thousand rubles a month. The wife works as a manager in a commercial structure and earns about 80 thousand. per month. We have two children, 7 and 14 years old. We all lived happily in a three-room apartment.

About four years ago, my wife started talking about her own house: she offered to exchange an apartment for a cottage in the suburbs. I was not eager to leave my home, but I was pleased with the prospect of expanding the living space. For this reason, I agreed to move.

What house did we buy

As a result, we sold the apartment and bought a two-storey house with an area of 145 sq. meters on a plot of 8 acres. The house is fresh but not new. The previous owners lived there for 3 years. Apart from the internal repairs of average lousiness there was nothing special.

Gas heating, in the part of the house on the ground floor there is a warm water floor. Central water; drain - a pit made of concrete rings. The yard is fenced, there is a gate, a parking lot and garden paths.

This area is conventionally called "20 minutes from the center" and is even considered prestigious - there are expensive cottages hidden behind high fences. But there is no paved roadway and sidewalks on my street. The road to the house is unpaved, covered with rubble.

We bought this house in the spring of 2017. Immediately they made a good repair, which cost almost a million rubles. In July, they settled in, and it would seem that it would not be difficult to live and make good money, but everything did not work out as we expected.

Country life is a waste of time and money

The first thing I began to spend much more time on was on the road. It took me 15 minutes to get from my previous place of residence to work - now from an hour to an hour and a half. If earlier the children went to school and returned from there themselves, now I had to take them away and pick them up.

In 2017, they studied in one shift, and in 2018, in different ones. And that turned into a problem. When my wife or I could not pick up the children, we had to call a taxi. And this is 170-230 rubles per trip. I cannot allow a seven-year-old child to take a minibus and then walk two kilometers from the bus stop to the house. The son could not always meet the youngest from school, he was still engaged in the sports section.

The next inconvenience is the shops. If earlier, in order to buy bread, I had to go down to the first floor of my house, then in the private sector for this I had to walk or drive by car 700 meters. This is also wasted time.

And in general, excessive driving for any reason is very annoying, especially in winter. If earlier I had to come to the parking lot, get in the car, warm it up for five minutes and leave, now I need to remove the snow, open and close the gate and only then go. And this, again, is precious time.

Auto repair has doubled

Another item of new expenses is car depreciation. Previously, I did not repair the car as often because I hardly drove on a dirt road with potholes. And now cars (we have two of them) require repair twice as often. Either a rubber band breaks, then something knocks in the chassis. And we have doubled our travel time. And these are expenses!

About the yard and the garden

Next, the courtyard. You constantly need to do something in it: either rain or snow; then the leaves are the grass. This I do not understand and do not want to understand. Why should I squirm, tearing up the grass on the site or pour it all with concrete that it did not grow? For the garden? He doesn't feed us!

One year we decided to set up a vegetable garden on the site. They brought in land, bought gardening tools, made a greenhouse and beds, planted everything that grows in our area. And what is the bottom line? A lot of time and money spent, but received: three buckets of cucumbers, two tomatoes, three boxes of eggplant and a box of peppers. Well, strawberries with a bucket and a dozen bunches of greens per season.

A vegetable garden is an unprofitable event. The money invested in all this could provide the family with fresh vegetables and fruits for three whole years. As a result, we abandoned this business. Instead of crawling in the garden after a day at work, I'd rather go to the gym or the pool! I do not get the pleasure of excavating or contemplating a tomato on a bush.

There are no problems with the house, but they will begin over time. Repair the blind area, fill the path, fix the fence, the tiles fell off the basement... this and other constant fuss that will take up time. And also, watch the gas, control the boiler, pump out the hole every ten days - you can't just leave the house as an apartment for a couple of weeks. I do not like it!

About kebabs

And one more argument of fans of suburban life, which I want to dispel. These are kebabs, barbecue and reception. That is, the yard is an ideal place for cooking meat on charcoal and for this it is worth buying a house. And I had no problems with this before: I took a grill, meat and went to nature or a recreation center. That's all!

Only in contrast to the barbecue in the yard, in nature the picture in front of your eyes is constantly different and somehow more fun in your soul. But the same type in the yard becomes boring and this barbecue is not a joy somehow. The only advantage of homemade barbecue is that you don't get behind the wheel when you have a hard drink.

It may seem to you that I am a white-handed person and am afraid of difficulties, but this is far from the case. In my youth, I had to work as a loader, unloading cement, crushed stone, and meat from refrigerators. Work does not frighten me, I feel sorry for the time. And the house and, in particular, suburban life, it is being devoured.

Outcome

"Suburban life is a waste of time and money!" - so I told my wife and she understood me. We do not feed ourselves on subsidiary plots, we have no home production, we spend most of our time in the city. We simply don't need a house with land.

Last year, we quickly got rid of the house, since the demand for suburban housing has grown due to the pandemic. Instead, we bought a good apartment of 115 sq. meters. The area is well-maintained, there is an underground parking, everything is within walking distance. We can go out for a walk in the park and we are completely satisfied with it.
