How to properly prepare seeds from fresh store Peppers for sowing. My personal experience

We often see juicy, colorful bell peppers in stores. And avid summer residents, of course, dream of seeing the same in their greenhouses. At the same time, they are afraid to take planting material from store fruits - suddenly they are hybrids and nothing worthwhile will grow out of them.

Do not be afraid! Even if you have hybrids in front of you, their seeds are quite suitable for planting. The only thing is that the fruits are a little smaller.

I regularly use seeds from fresh store peppers to grow seedlings, and every time I am happy with the result. The main thing is to choose the right pepper in the store and prepare it.

I start sowing seeds for seedlings at the end of February. I grow plants on my windowsill without using any special conditions. I don't even use additional lighting - the seedlings grow strong and healthy anyway.

So, how to choose the right fresh pepper in the store and prepare it for sowing seeds for seedlings:

  1. I buy peppers about a month before sowing.
  1. I choose the fruit I like in the store. It should be ripe. It is undesirable to take a very large vegetable, but too small will not work either.

  2. The number of chambers in the fetus also matters. I take vegetables with four chambers because they have a lot more seeds. But you can take three-chambered ones if you really like the copy.
  3. At home, I am in no hurry to take out the seeds. I put the pepper on the windowsill or in any other place at room temperature. Let it lie there for two or three weeks and hang up.
  4. When the fruit is shriveled, I cut it in half and take out the seeds. I choose the largest ones. They are located near the base of the stalk.
  5. These seeds received more nutrition, which means that the seedlings from them will turn out to be stronger and more resistant to diseases. Seed material from the upper part of the stalk and even more so from the internal partitions, respectively, should not be taken.
  6. I spread the seeds on a napkin and remove all unnecessary. If I'm not going to plant them all right now, then I dry some of them longer and put them in a jar or box until better times. Those that will be planted immediately should be slightly dry.
  7. I do not soak the seeds and do not even carry out pre-sowing disinfection treatment, but immediately plant them in cups.

Seeds taken from fresh peppers sprout very quickly and amicably. The seedlings are strong, and the bushes themselves are large and spreading, with a lot of fruits. Try planting seeds from fresh store-bought peppers and you won't regret it.
