How to save the potato crop? I share working methods

A few years ago, the potato crop did not please me at all. There were few potatoes, many root crops were affected by late blight. I realized that I know very few secrets of growing this crop. I started to study the information and am sharing with you what helped.

In the fall, after harvesting, I planted white mustard in a potato field, and a month later I dug up the soil. I read that it favorably affects the fertility of the earth and kills all pests.

To disinfect the tubers before planting next year, I soaked them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate (0.5 grams per 10 liters of water). It helped - the next year the potatoes hurt less.

By the onset of spring, I already knew that the potato variety needs to be renewed every few years. After all, the longer you grow the same variety, the worse its disease resistance and taste.

I read about several methods, but I decided to try two on my own:

  1. She placed several large potatoes in the cellar in the spring and kept them there all summer, periodically sprinkling them. Gradually, in conditions of high humidity, small tubers formed on large ones.

  1. By the fall, I separated and dried the small roots, and planted them the next spring. The plant became much less sick!
  2. From the healthiest bush, I separated several cuttings with leaves after it faded. She held the cuttings for several hours in a solution of potassium permanganate, and then planted them in a garden bed in the shade.
  3. A month later, I dug up the resulting small tubers, processed it again in potassium permanganate and left it to wait for the next season. The result that I received next summer made me happy!

By the way, when I separated the cuttings, I learned one more secret. Some time after flowering, the plant broke the bushes at a distance of about 15 centimeters from the soil.

It turns out that this technique helped nutrients from the soil to flow not into the stem, but directly into the tubers. Thanks to this, the number of root crops has increased significantly. As a result, I solved the problem with a small harvest even before the renewal of the variety!

Finally, I share an important rule, the observance of which saved not only the potatoes, but the whole garden. Crops belonging to the same family should not be grown in the same location every year.

After all, each family has its own characteristic diseases, and pathogenic bacteria can be in the soil for more than one season. I decided to plant some of the potatoes where I used to grow cabbage. The harvest in this place was much better.
