Why do you need an edge router in the workshop. Review of the budget option

click fraud protection

Greetings.

Previously, I did not really understand why to have an edge router, I thought it was a waste of money, because I have there is a universal milling cutter with which you can perform all basic types of milling work at home workshop.

But once again, removing my universal router from the mount in the table for edging the dimensional part along the edge, I realized that I could use a small router for such a job.

Began to look closely at small universal and edge routers. In stores where I had the opportunity to touch my hands, I looked at different models and did not dare to decide on something specific.

Once I came across a review of a Makita edge milling cutter in three basic configurations. The thing seemed very attractive, only the price bites.

And then I saw almost the same milling cutter, but three times cheaper, and decided to buy it. This is the Enkor FME-710 / 8E milling cutter.

The milling cutter comes with three bases.

The submersible base has a slight backlash, which is not critical in my opinion. And in fairness, when I looked at Bosch and Makita milling cutters with submersible bases in stores, a backlash was also observed on them.

This base has a 3-step micro dive adjustment. Cutter stroke 40 mm.

The set includes two collets for 6 and 8 mm. By the way, cutters with 8 mm shank. are much more common than with a 6 mm shank.

I actively used this router in the manufacture trolley table.

Also, as an experiment, I tried to use this router in conjunction with a flexible shaft. The result is quite satisfactory.

In general, this machine completely suited me. I bought it in a store in my city. I met this milling cutter on the Leroy Merlin website, though only when the city of Moscow was indicated.

For small jobs: make a milling along the edge, select a groove for the hinges, make a decor according to a template, etc. For works where high power is not required and the removal of a large amount of material at once. This router will work very well.

Next, I suggest watching a video clip with an overview of this router.

Thanks for reading. I would be glad to have your support in the form of a like and a subscription to the channel. And see other publications on the channel.

Alexander.
