Three devices for economical heating of a house with electricity
Hello! The winter of 2020-2021 turned out to be frosty, but it's March outside, and it seems that the cold is about to be released. I think the time has come to summarize some of the results of the heating season in our private house.
For those who came to my channel for the first time, let me remind you that we live in a log house with an area of 100 square meters. Log thickness ~ 25 cm, outside the house is sheathed with 100 mm mineral wool. The log house stands on a cold strip foundation. Region - Volga region.
The heating of the house is completely electric, and at the price of kW * h at 3.93 rubles for the heating season we paid almost 20,000 rubles. As far as I know, other families give the same amount for a month or a month and a half, but I have applied a number of technical solutions that allow you to save energy. If not right - correct in the comments.
Everyone thinks: "Where does the money go?"
And we answer: "Before you plug the heater into the outlet, think ..."
The first secret.
The first and most important technical solution for 2020 is the installation of a split system with a heating function, which operates down to a temperature of -15 ° C. In it, electricity is spent not on heating the heating element (as in a convector), but on compressing freon gas. When compressed, freon heats up, is pumped through copper pipes into the house, where it is blown by the fans of the indoor unit and gives off heat to the room.
Just don't say now that I don't know physics. But due to the fact that energy is spent ONLY on compression and pumping freon, and not on heating the heating element, from 1 kW of electricity we get up to 4.81 kW of heat. Yes, when the temperature drops, the power drops, but not lower than 1: 2. That is, in any case, we are "in the black."
Anyone who believes that this violates the law of conservation of energy is sent to read my article:
► Heating the house according to the Carnot cycle
The second secret.
Since our air conditioner according to the passport is not recommended to be turned on for heating below -15 degrees, on cold days we warmed ourselves with convectors. I will not dwell on the advantages of convectors over oil radiators, but rather tell you how to make both those and others less voracious.
Internal thermostats of these heating devices turn off the power, measuring not the temperature in the room, but the temperature of the heating element. As a result: high consumption and overheating of the room (at your expense).
Decision: installation of any socket thermostats (thermostats). These are reliable devices on which I set the desired on-off temperature. When reaching, say, +22 degrees, the relay turns off the convector's power supply, and it does not heat the "excess".
Third advice.
The air conditioner (and on cold days - convectors) heats the house, we control the temperature regime by the thermostat, but we must not forget about the humidity regime! Even if you do not live in a wooden house, like us, but in a stone or aerated concrete one.
2-3 times a week, at least for an hour, we turn on the Swiss Boneco humidifier. When the humidity reaches 50%, the temperature is felt differently. The house is noticeably warmer with the same thermometer readings in the rooms.
Anyone who has been to St. Petersburg or the Leningrad region will confirm that there, due to humidity, the temperature is felt differently. Therefore, a humidifier in the house is important and needed no less than a handy man, an economical air conditioner, temperature switches and convectors.
In the comments I will answer questions about the operation of the air conditioner, thermostat, humidifier! I read all the comments and answer everyone who is interested!
