To make this simple device, you only need a knife and a piece of wood. Chopik is a wooden dowel - a cylindrical rod narrowed at one end. The other part of the dowel is used for the impact of a hand percussion instrument. In simple words - under the hammer.
By the way, chopiks, or dowels, were successfully used instead of dowels and anchors, in those days when they were a terrible shortage. Almost all the cornices, wall cabinets and shelves in the apartments were mounted on chopiks. And after all, all this lasted for decades!
So, chopik is the fastest solution when you need to eliminate a leak from a fistula in a pipe. The principle of its operation is as follows: the dowel is tightly hammered into the hole, the wood swells under the influence of moisture and the leak is temporarily eliminated. This can be done even if the water pipe is under pressure. You just have to pick up and score!

The dowel in the pipe is a purely temporary measure. As they say, until help arrives in time. But nothing is more permanent than temporary. Our utilities manage to turn the temporary into a long and reliable one, supplying the chopik with a wire or a rag. This is truly a renovation our way. It is unlikely that this can be seen anywhere else.
Plumbers have long been armed with special clamps and even plumbing tape, but hammering a piece of wood into a pipe is like a hobby, a passion. It is especially evident in the dark damp basements of high-rise buildings. There, far from prying eyes, you can find such "technological" solutions as a chopik pulled by a wire.
