How to grow thick and healthy tomato seedlings
It's time to grow tomato seedlings for their subsequent planting in the ground at the end of May. However, not all seedlings may be healthy and strong at the beginning of planting, in order to prevent this, it is necessary to use some of the tips given in this article.
Seed selection
Traditionally, gardeners divide all seeds into two groups: self-collected and purchased in a special store.
Self-harvested seeds from ripe tomatoes must not be of the F1 variety, otherwise they will not germinate again. At the same time, when buying tomato seeds, you should choose the F1 marking, which guarantees a bountiful harvest.
Seed preparation
After selecting the seed, you should get rid of the empty ones. To do this, you need to place the existing seeds for 5 minutes in a solution of table salt and the empty ones will float up.
Next, it is advisable to place the seeds in a nutrient solution. Potassium permanganate is perfect for this: dip the seeds in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate for 15 minutes.
Priming
The easiest way to get soil is in a specialty store, but you can prepare it yourself. So, if you cook it yourself, then mix 4 parts of peat, 1 part of sod land, 0.25 parts of mullein into a homogeneous mass. You can enrich the soil with river sand, if available.
Planting seeds
Prepared seeds should be planted in the ground at a distance of 2 centimeters from each other. After that, the soil must be watered regularly. As soon as the first shoots appear, transfer the seedlings to a warm, and most importantly, bright room. So that the seedlings are not bent to one side, turn the container over in different directions from the sun.
Transplanting
In May, the resulting seedlings are ready for planting in the ground! At first, it will "hurt", which is explained by the change in temperature, but this will last for several days.
