Construction and other life hacks that will do more harm than good. Part 1
Life hacks and life hackers are now in vogue - people who invent and distribute them. These often useless tips fill the entire Internet space. It seems that they will soon replace education, and any profession can be easily and playfully mastered through short videos. We will collect these tips and post them for everyone to see. "Dead" landing of a hammer, ax or sledgehammer on rubber
This method "ensures" that wedges do not need to be used when inserting the above tool. According to the inventors of this life hack, you can simply wrap the top of the handle with rubber from a bicycle tube, lubricate it with linseed oil and attach the striking part. "Dead" landing is ensured, and there will be amortization when working with the tool!
The method is good if you use it, but the tool no longer works. I would like to ask: is it okay that the rubber dries up, dubs in the cold or softens in the heat? During normal operation, the striking part of the instrument will simply fly off! And it's good if the wall, and not the partner. If it worked, then, probably, manufacturing plants have simplified their task and "tightly" fastened axes and sledgehammers with rubber.
There is a GOST for this case, which says that swinging the ax on the ax is not allowed and that the ax must be wedged with a wedge. There can be no discussion with this document. Hammers and sledgehammers should also wedge.
"Eternal" log
The authors of the invention urge to make a container with holes from a piece of pipe, fill it with water and put it into the firebox. In their opinion, water will evaporate, decompose into hydrogen and oxygen, as a result of which combustion will improve and increase the efficiency of the furnace by 50%. The question immediately came up: what prevents you from simply putting a log soaked in water into the firebox?
The fact is that for the decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen by the thermolysis method, a combustion temperature of over 1500 degrees Celsius is needed. Only then will oxygen and hydrogen be formed, followed by a powerful explosion (pure hydrogen explodes upon contact with oxygen).
As we know, the average temperature of burning wood in the stove is 650 degrees and therefore "eternal" the log will only produce steam, which will carry out through the pipe, received from the burning of firewood, the heat energy. Heat, instead of being transferred to the heat exchanger, will simply fly out into the pipe. In addition, the steam will condense in the chimney and freeze. This is elementary physics!
"Eternal" log is one of the most useless and even harmful devices. But would-be engineers do not stop there and offer an "eternal" log on waste oil. This is not even discussed, since it is absolutely forbidden to put oil products into a home oven!
Fire brick
On the Internet, another method is proposed for heating rooms without firewood. It consists in the fact that you need to soak a couple of bricks in diesel fuel or kerosene, put in the furnace, ignite and heat is provided. According to the adherents of this life hack, a brick absorbs a liter of fuel per day and burns for up to 6 hours. Economical, profitable, convenient. The question is: why do we need to supply gas to our houses at all, if there are miracle bricks?
But all this is from the realm of fantasy. It has already been tested: a brick soaked for 26 hours in diesel fuel burns for 25 minutes. And it burns very sluggishly - its flame is not capable of producing enough heat to properly heat even a potbelly stove. A brick, seen in kerosene for a day, burns a little brighter, but in short - only 17 minutes.
