Contrast of impressions: the most unusual solutions for the reconstruction of duplexes

A duplex is a house divided into two halves, each with a separate entrance. The plot on which the duplex is located is also equally divided into two parts. The advantages of this type of housing are many. This is more living space for less money; and a piece of land attached to each "apartment"; and reduced heating costs due to a single wall and roof. In general, these houses are called "people's housing" for a reason. But duplexes have one obvious drawback - the impossibility of a full-fledged reconstruction. Here, whatever one may say, you cannot get rid of the neighbor's half.

House with a "trailer"

There is nothing eternal in this world. This also applies to houses. They, like any thing, wear out over time, deteriorate and require major repairs. In the case of detached buildings, there are no problems: you can at least demolish and build a new one; to build at least two floors on top! This trick won't work with duplex. If the owner of the neighbor's half does not plan repairs, then you have to get out yourself.

In this case, the neighboring half is an unnecessary trailer, from which, no matter how much you want, you cannot get rid of it. This imposes a lot of restrictions on overhaul or reconstruction. In this case, it will not be possible to deploy a large-scale construction project.

But in spite of everything, some owners of halves do not despair and are remodeling their homes. The result is houses that you can't look at without surprise. One half has been transformed beyond recognition, and the other is in its original form. This is a real contrast of impressions!

And it was possible to build a new house!

Some solutions for the reconstruction of duplexes look so ridiculous that the question arises: what is stopping the construction of a new house? After all, no less money and effort has been invested in such projects than in a new building. Agree that it is better to build a detached house than to grow a full-fledged cottage from a half of a duplex. No matter how cool the reconstruction is, the other half will still dangle like an unnecessary appendage.

And another question is brewing for the safety of these homes. If the reconstructed half has new electrical wiring, and the other is old, then where are the guarantees for the safety of the house? It can close at any moment and then the fire cannot be avoided. Or suddenly a neighbor has a gas leak? How to be sure of the safety of your home if you never know what is going on with your neighbor. Apartment buildings also have this problem, but at least they are not wooden, like most reconstructed duplexes.
