What if the Rose bush is frozen to the ground? I tell you how to help a stunted plant in spring

I have ten rose bushes growing at my dacha. The climate in our area is mild, so I do not cover them much for the winter, because I am afraid that they will rot from an excess of moisture.

Last fall I did as usual, but the winter turned out to be unpredictable: during the night the temperature dropped from +6 degrees to -17. After the thaw, I realized that the bushes were frozen, but I did not throw them away, but brought them back to life. I will share my experience.

How can you know that a rose bush is frozen

Last year, in spring, the temperature in our area stabilized only at the beginning of April: there were no night frosts, and the air warmed up to + 12, + 17 degrees during the day.

I removed the spruce branches from the bushes and finally made sure that the bushes were frozen to the ground, since the branches were dry and lifeless, because they broke with a crunch. You can, of course, wait in the hope that a little later, perhaps, the buds will appear, and then the leaves. But I’ll say right away that this does not make any sense.

In order not to indulge myself with illusions, I cut one branch almost to the root and looked at the cut: it was painted brown, and there was a small void inside. This unambiguously confirms the fear: the bush is really frozen.

How I revived the rose bushes

Sorry for the plant, but did not panic. I raked the ground around the bush a little, made sure that the root was alive, not frozen, since the part of the branches that was underground was green, which means alive. With a garden scissors, I cut off the dead branches to the beginning of the greenery.

And then it was necessary to deal with the root. I understood that in order to restore the bush, it is necessary to stimulate the root.

To this end, I have done a number of works:

· Removed the top layer of earth around the bushes, but so as not to damage the roots;

I mixed humus with the earth, added Kornevin (a special preparation that affects the development of the root) and spread it out in an even layer around the bush: the height is about 3-4 cm;

· Watered the missing rose bushes with lukewarm water and waited for about five days;

· Made a solution of Zircon and Cytovit (for ten liters of water, one ampoule of each drug) and poured it under the bush;

After five days, the solution was again, but this time with water with hydrogen peroxide, which was poured over the earth around the bush.

I draw your attention to the fact that peroxide must be poured into the water immediately before watering so that it retains its qualities.

I managed to save all four frozen bushes, which almost immediately began to grow, the branches turned green first, then the buds appeared. In due time, buds were tied, and then beautiful flowers.
