"Sonny" is a miracle potato with a yield of up to 10 kg per bush.

Potatoes have long been one of the most important crops. In connection with this fact, breeders in many countries pay considerable attention to the development of new varieties. Some varieties are used for animal feed, while others are used to prepare dishes for humans.

Fodder potatoes are large in size, but their taste leaves much to be desired. Often, having bought beautiful potato tubers in the market or in a store, you understand that it is impossible to eat them. This means that you have come across one of the varieties intended for animal feed.

Usually, potatoes that taste great do not grow very large. But you really want the harvest to be rich, and the tubers to be large.

I recently learned that there is a potato variety that combines both good taste and large tubers. Initially, this variety was called "Bogatyr", but over time, gardeners lovingly renamed it "Sonka".

Where this variety came from and who bred it was not known for certain. It is grown in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The climate of these countries, as well as of other neighboring states, is perfect for growing "Son".

An interesting fact is that this variety is not officially registered in any of the breeding laboratories. It may have been bred by an amateur breeder. To find and buy this variety, you should contact the Internet forums of gardeners. "Sonok" is not sold in specialized stores. Unless in the market you can accidentally stumble upon a gardener selling seeds of this variety.

Over time, when the potato spread in several countries, they found out that this variety was bred in Russia, namely in the Far East. The Scientific Center of Agrobiotechnology was able to prove its authorship.

What is so outstanding about "Sonny"?

The most important is its high yield. On one bush, you can collect so many tubers that in an ordinary variety it grows only on three or four bushes. Depending on the fertility of the soil, this can be at least 15-20 pieces of potatoes, and often 30 pieces. In addition, the size of one tuber is not less than 500-800 g, sometimes up to 1.5 kg. I managed to grow a tuber as much as possible in 1kg!

This data appeared on the Internet, where gardeners brag about their rich harvests. Reviews about "Sonny" are always positive. People are simply delighted that they collect from 3 to 5 kg of potatoes from one bush, and with proper care, growing in high beds on compost with watering up to 10 kg. I got a maximum bush of 7 kg with loose, fertilized soil and watering.

And this is a very good indicator for a variety intended for human nutrition. There are practically no trifles, even in a dry year.
Hilling is simply contraindicated for the son, since the potatoes grow to the sides 50 cm from the bush. This reduces labor costs, but it is difficult when harvesting on large planting volumes, because such a variety will not work for cultivation with machinery.

The "Sonny" variety has increased immunity against diseases such as cancer, black leg, scab and others. This does not mean that the beetles generally do not encroach on the "Son's" planting, but still prefer to destroy the tops of a different variety first.
Taste qualities of "Sonka" are good enough and are liked by most gardeners. Ideal for both frying and boiled without boiling.

This variety is great for storage, remaining firm until June in the basement. This is not surprising, because "Sonny" is a late variety. This moment spoils the first impression of the wonderful qualities of potatoes a little. After all, many people want potatoes to produce crops as early as possible.

Not in every region the warm time required for the cultivation of this variety lasts 5 months. Moreover, in autumn late blight attacks the potatoes, but this variety is resistant to it, and when the other varieties are affected, then the Sonny stands with green leaves.

For early and middle varieties, this is not scary, because the tubers have already grown, but the disease has an adverse effect on the harvest of the late variety. The yield is significantly reduced if the potatoes are not treated with special preparations.

- it is advisable to buy seed potatoes from trusted people, because in the market you can slip a completely different variety;
- it is advisable to use cut potato tubers with eyes for planting. This will preserve all the qualities of the variety.
- before planting potatoes, they must be germinated. A month before planting, lay out the seeds in a warm room and wait for the sprouts to appear. Given the long ripening period of potatoes, this manipulation will help reduce the time to harvest.
- before planting, add humus and wood ash to the ground. The better the soil is fertilized, the richer the harvest.

Gardeners say that the variety retains its properties for more than 5 years. Then it is better to renew the seeds.

It is worth being careful during weeding and working superficially, because potato tubers occupy a fairly large area due to their considerable number and size.
