For a long time I suspected that they were weighed on the packaging, but by how much? Weighed a bag of cement and putty, share the result
I was more than once convinced that many manufacturers of packaging products (for example, sugar, cereals, etc.) are cunning and deliberately overweight us. What happens to building materials?I have long suspected that in this area, some manufacturers are not entirely honest. and on the packaging they also do not weigh. Agree, the temptation is great, and who would think of weighing heavy bags (for example, with cement) and checking the honesty of the manufacturer.
But we'll check it out today! We will check some of the most popular building materials on the market: cement and putty. Just such a case turned up. For the next week I have planned a small renovation and therefore on occasion bought 7 bags of putty and 5 bags of cement.
I will weigh onelectronic scales with a maximum load of 180 kg and an error of 0.1 kg. To keep the surface level and the weight evenly distributed, I put a piece of plywood underneath them.
Before weighing, check the accuracy of the balance. I put 4 pancakes from the barbell, each weighing 2.5 kg. That's right, the scales show exactly 10 kg!
Well, let's start experimenting! Let's start with M500 grade Portland cement. This cement is of our production and its cost is 300 rubles per bag.
The weight on the bag is 50 kg with an error of +/- 1 kg. This means that the minimum weight of the bag should be 49 kg (I am sure the error will not work in our favor). Let's check it out.
I put the bag on the scales and what do we see? Yes, I did not expect such an underweight.
The scales showed only 48,2 kg. To be sure, I weighed a few more bags and got the following results: 48,5 and 48,3 kg. It turns out, even taking into account the maximum error, the manufacturer does not weigh about 700 gr (and in fact 1.7 kg)!
Now let's check the universal putty of the famous German company "Knauf". The manufacturer did not write the error and is simply indicated on the bag weight 25 kg. Let's see how accurate (or honest) the Germans are.
I put the putty bag on the scales. Well what can I say, I just have no words, see for yourself.
Even the Germans disappointed me. The scales issued 23.8 kg. Weighed a few more other bags and got 24,3 and 23,9 kg. In general, the average underweight was about 1 kg! And a bag of such putty costs, for a minute, as much as 538 rubles.
