The drainage around my house is failing. What protects the base of the foundation during the spring rise of water?

Together with the first warmth of spring, spring floods also come. For a private home, this is a seasonal challenge for which you need to be prepared.

Friends, a big hello to everyone. The third winter on my self-construction is coming to an end, and it was, probably, the snowiest, and the most frosty during this period.

Now a new time begins, which also promises to be special.

The first warm weeks showed that there will be a lot of water this spring.

This is how the drainage ditches overflow in our gardening.

Although in summer it is almost dry there ...

The situation is better near my site, but there is still a lot of water. And even the drainage system around my house was completely filled, along with the rise in the water table.

Last year, in the spring, water came out of the drainage pipes and flowed through the drainage ditches.

Now the water level is much higher, and this system simply does not work.

Even at the development stage of the site, I assumed that this could happen. And here are two ways out:

• Make forced pumping of water from the drainage system using a pump.
• Or, raise the ground level.

It was on the second path that I went.

✅ Now I'm not talking about the entire site, but the building spot must be done on a hill.

✔ Therefore, before the foundation was erected, fertile soil was first removed. It is about 20 cm.

✔ And then a sand pillow was made, about 50 cm.

That is why, this spring, the water did not reach the base of my foundation (it is shallow, only 400 mm high).

Although this phenomenon is seasonal, it is still dangerous.

Especially if such flooding is annual. So if you come across a site with a high level of groundwater, you need to climb as high as possible from them 😁.
