American scientists have come up with a new version of the superluminal engine that does not violate the laws of physics

A completely new type of warp drive has been developed by a research team from the New York Advanced Movement Research Laboratory that does not violate current physical principles.

So the theoretically developed engine, in contrast to the Alcubierre propulsion, uses a more realistic version implementation, which does not require a giant concentration of negative energy concentrated in one point.

Alcubierre engine and negative energy

The first iteration of the so-called warp drive required the use of a substantial volume negative energy, the use of which made it possible to overcome the existing framework of the theory of relativity Einstein. According to this theory, the movement of spaceships with a speed exceeding the speed of light is simply impossible.

It was assumed that negative energy would be needed to compress and expand space faster than the speed of light. The only catch was that negative energy in nature is realized only in the form of quantum fluctuations.

And for the real implementation of the Alcubierre engine, the amount of negative energy must correspond to the mass of planets such as Jupiter, or even correspond to the mass of the Sun.

New research and new warp drive concept

According to the new work of scientists, such a colossal amount of negative energy is no longer needed. But at the same time, the required mass, which will be able to literally "crush" space-time, is still comparable to the mass of our Earth.

In this case, it will be necessary to somehow fit it (mass) into a modest volume with a diameter of 10 m. The shape of the ship will also affect the operation of the engine. For example, a wide ship will require slightly less operating mass than a narrow and thin one.

American scientists have shared the results of their work on the pages of the Science Alert Internet portal.

Scientists have come up with an engine, but so far they have no idea how to build a spacecraft using the principles identified. But, it is likely that in the future this problem will also be solved, and there it will be not far away for a full-fledged ship with warp engines on board.
