A friend of mine spins threads and knits dog hair products from dog owners
Every Russian person imagines an old Russian hut with one obligatory item - a spinning wheel. After all, women used to make threads for knitted things themselves from the wool that was sheared from pets.
There are so many different kinds of threads in today's stores that it would seem that the craftswomen, who are the craftswomen who spin wool themselves, have disappeared. But I was surprised to learn that my colleague, with whom we have recently begun to work in the same office, is engaged in spinning woolen threads.
Moreover, she buys dog hair from dog owners who comb their animals. And such a business brings her a good income. But, of course, she also deals with sheep's wool. It's just that there is a great demand for socks and belts made of dog hair, so it is more profitable for her to knit.
First, the wool purchased from dog breeders is sorted out and combed using a special tool - metal brushes. At the same time, it is divided from shreds into separate fibers, becomes fluffy and soft, not rolling.
Then it is placed on a spinning wheel, where it is secured with rubber bands. This is how our ancestors, great-grandmothers and great-great-grandmothers spun. You need to get used to such work, because the back and arms hurt from constant tension, because this is a very unusual position.
After that, the craftswoman begins to spin, pulling a thin thread of fibers from a bunch of wool and simultaneously twisting it. Such a thread is wound on a spindle.
The spindle is made of wood, it has a head with which the threads do not slide off. Its shape is convex, from the word "spindle" came the definition "fusiform".
My colleague also has an electric spinning wheel, which itself releases the finished twisted thread through a thin hole. Of course, on such a device, the process is much faster. But it is believed that such a thread is less durable than the one that is spun by hand.
After the threads are ready, they are tied into a skein that is soaked for several hours in a highly scented liquid detergent solution. After all, it is clear that dog hair has a strong unpleasant odor. Therefore, you need to use a scented detergent. Just not a powder, but something liquid, so that no plaque remains.
At the end of soaking, the threads are gently washed and dried. And then they are wound into balls on a special reeling device. It turns out neat beautiful balls. And socks or belts are already knitted from ready-made threads. They are said to have a healing effect, so there is no shortage of buyers. Especially before February 23rd, so she is trying to find those who are ready to sell dog wool by this time.
Here it turns out how different ways of making money can be. My colleague truly has golden hands and her work is highly valued. This is as it should be, because this is not a buy and sell, but a real job that requires skill and skill.
