Bottles and construction waste: what can be found in artisanal FBS blocks
If the market offers something cheap, then there is a catch. What "surprises" can you face when buying FBS blocks - read on.
How handicraft production reduces the cost of production
Small business suffers most from crises, therefore its representatives are the inventors of various know-how in the field of reducing the cost of manufactured products.
Sergey, worker of the precast concrete production shop:
“I have been working at such industries for a long time, more than 10 years. He started with a worker, now he is a foreman and a technologist in one person.
First, a little about the block itself. FBS is an ordinary unreinforced concrete block of a low grade (M-100). Of the reinforcing elements, only mounting loops with a diameter of 10 mm from reinforcement class A1 are used in it. For FBS, this is enough - the concrete holds the compressive load well, and there is practically no tensile load in the foundation.
I want to say that almost any production owner demands to reduce the cost of concrete products, especially FBS. This is done in several ways.
- The first and most common: crushed limestone goes into the foundation block, and not gravel or granite. It is less durable but also less expensive. Using this material, the cost of the product is reduced.
- The second method (no less popular): rubble is mixed with concrete or even bricks. The savings are tangible.
- The third method: less cement is introduced into the composition. By about 20, and sometimes 30%. We always focus on the M100 brand, but after such manipulations, it turns out not concrete, but devils.
- Fourth way: bricks, pieces of concrete and other construction waste are placed in the center of the block. This debris replaces up to 25% solution. Such a block can burst in half.
- Fifth (barbaric): put plastic bottles in the center of the block. This is usually done when the FBS goes to some kind of fence. For example, when road builders buy blocks. The savings on them are good, considering that 20% of the product takes up air. "
What to look for when choosing a block
Sergey:
“Never buy blocks by phone, so to speak, with delivery. Always go to the facility and do a visual inspection. Blocks should be flat and cast into normal metal molds, not wood or worn out.
If the FBS has a broken geometry, then, firstly, it will be inconvenient to mount them; and secondly, large joint seams will negatively affect the thermal and waterproofing of the building.
Ask at the factory if they have a steam chamber. If the blocks are not steamed, the concrete will be of inferior quality. And also see if the concrete products are dry outside in the open air. Concrete should mature, gain strength, and not lose moisture in the wind under the rays of the sun.
Try to buy concrete and even more reinforced concrete products at large enterprises. At least no one there will be involved in adding broken bricks to the FBS ”.
