The most powerful rocket engine RD-171 MV has successfully passed firing tests
Full cycle of fire tests, consisting of eight tests of the new rocket engine RD-171MV, fully completed in the scientific and testing complex NPO Energomash. The entire set of checks took three months, during which the engine demonstrated its efficiency and loyalty to the selected design and technological solutions.
The first stage of testing has been successfully completed
Congratulations on the successful completion of the ground test cycle RD-171 MV the head of NPO Energomash I. Arbuzov. So the merit is that the ground tests were carried out in full accordance with the planned plan indicate that at all preparatory stages, engineers and workers showed a high level of technical training and initially correctly selected solutions for all delivered tasks.
For reference. Russian engine RD-171 MV has a closed cycle with afterburning of oxidizing generator gas, which is equipped with four combustion chambers at once. So the RD-171MV engine is a deep modernization of another Russian engine, which was previously used in the first stage of the Zenit launch vehicle (made in Ukraine).
So the next step will be to install a liquid oxygen-kerosene engine. RD-171 MV to the Progress Rocket and Space Center (Samara), where the engine tests will continue in conjunction with the first stage of the new Soyuz-5 launch vehicle.
After completing all tests, the engine RD-171 MV will be used on the first stage of Soyuz-5 (a logical replacement for Zenit), as well as on the super-heavy rocket under development "Yenisei" for space flights both to near space and to distant frontiers for the study of other planets of the Solar systems.
