Willow hedge in one season. Planting and weaving technology of a live fence

A hedge is a dream for many site owners. But it is repulsive that a living fence from any bush grows for too long. And I want a living fence next year. It turns out that there is an affordable way to create a willow hedge, planted by cuttings and woven into an impenetrable, but beautiful fence. It takes only one season to create (and take root) such a fence. And its height will depend on the height of the cuttings harvested.

In short, they do this. In the wild thickets of willows, cuttings of the required length are cut (without critical damage to the trees). Let's say the planned fence will be high 2 m. Then we choose shoots with a height of approximately 2.5 m. Then they need to germinate. To do this, we lower the shoots into water (in buckets) on 4-5 days. But no longer. Willow should not give roots, only white "buds", sprouts 1-2 mm. When planting (when sticking into the ground), the roots will break off and the cuttings will not take root. This is a method of revitalizing cuttings.

We stick the sprouted cuttings in 2-3 pcs. together at an angle into the ground (bundles in different directions) and weave them. The intersection of the cuttings must be tied with a rope (not synthetics). Water as often as possible. If possible, then everyday before the start of frost. We water even after the cuttings have foliage. Willow loves water very much. After a year, the ropes can be cut.

Fertilizing live thickets will not hurt. Or, you can cover the root system with cut grass (do mulching). This will prevent the water from evaporating.

Planting should be done from spring (from late April-May) until July 20. Not later. Because it takes time to form the root system. It should form during the summer to autumn. By the fall, the hedge will be overgrown - something like this:

It needs to be trimmed vertically, cut off the branches that are sticking out to the sides. To do this, you will have to purchase a brush cutter attachment for cutting shrubs (grass trimmer attachment). Link with example here. It is necessary to cut off the shoots with a brush cutter so that the hedge for the next year is more dense (gave new shoots). You need to cut it in early autumn.

A live fence can be continued in any year, planted even at 3-5 m, intertwining with branches with branches of the previous planting. Of course, it is better to plant at least one side of the fence.
